My 1992 Explorer keeps losing power after I start driving it. The lights die, the radio, then eventually it's dead. The alternator WAS bad, very bad actually, and it was replaced. Still having the problems, but the alternator is working and not rattling like the old one...

What is the problem? What can I do to get my baby off the side of the road?

How are your battery cable connections and battery?

had the same problem ...have you checked to see how much your alternator is putting out...i had a new battery and a new alternator and was still having the same prob...stupid me didnt adjust the alternator and belt right....so my alternator was only putting out like 9 amps. have you checked to make sure your belt is adjusted right and is putting out the right amount of amps?

i will have that checked... the battery connections are fine. terminals are new, etc. it starts up easy, very clean, and runs just fine. when you start actually moving, it does it's thing.

IIRC from my 94 EB some years back...that was the classis symp. of the positive cable starting to weaken.......you cant see it lest you cut open the cable..that's when the green and flakes show you the problem.

hey, thanks for the 2 cents there. positive cable is fine... i neglected to check the 'Alt. Field' fuse after the install. the fuse was indeed blown and therefore the alternator wasn't producing any power... all is well now, thanks.

I'm curious. Where is the field fuse?

inside the fusebox on the end closest to the firewall, it is the small 15 amp blue fuse closest to the engine... that was the first time i ever saw it
