EDIT:
SEE POST 22 OF THIS THREAD FOR EXACT ITEMS USED.

Ive been working with AHodges, making a mess of his 5.0 rebuild thread, so I figured I better make my own and clean up the mess Ive made on his side.

I am slowly getting ready to go turbo, and saw that the stock fuel lines could not handle the flow.
ahodges upgraded his fuel system from the tank all the way up to the front with new fuel rails.

beautiful job, but I don't have the cash for the fuel rails right now. So, I do want to upgrade the line on top of my tank while I have it lowered replacing the fuel pump so that I don't have to drop it twice.

Here is what I'm thinking:
At the fuel pump, adapt to an6. It appears that the line is 3/8 at the fuel tank, so this looks like the adapter:
1)Russell Push-On EFI Fittings 644120-Male -6 AN, Female Quick-Connect 3/8 in

Then, using 6 an braided to the fuel filter ahodges used:

2)1/2 inch to 6an L fitting (entrance to filter)
3)Professional Products Competition Plus Fuel Filters 10300 - summit racing
4)1/2 inch to 6an straight fitting (exit from filter)

5)Then use a 6an female to 6an female adapter

6)Finally to a 5/16 fuel line to 6an adapter
Russell Push-On EFI Fittings 644110-Push-On EFI, Straight, Male -6 AN, Female Quick-Connect 5/16 in

This gives me a one time fuel tank drop, and an upgraded high flow fuel filter. Down the road, it will be easy to upgrade the rest of the fuel system as required.

Is your stock filter like the ohv? Have male in and out? If so item number 6 is wrong.I would just run -6an to the stock rail using (16mm-1.5 to -6an) adaptor. This would eliminate your item 5&6.

But if you do still wanna stop at filter and it is like ohv you need this for item 6 on your list

You have a link to that filter? Why not just go with a filter that has -6an in/out?you would need -6an to -6an hose fitting to attach to the (-6an to 1/2, items 2&4 on your list) at the filter one per side. Why I'm asking why not get a -6an in/out, save you two fittings..

Or maybe I should put it like this..if you go with a -6an in/out filter and do run it to the rail you will not need 4 of the items you listed and at over $10 a fitting that will add up.it would be cheaper and you would have true -6an to the rail.otherwise you gain nothing till you do run it to the rail.stopping after the filter would be pointless, only as good as your littlest point.

just think of me as that friend that hands you that last drink......you shouldnt have had. lol

Here's a link to the filter.

The beauty of this one is that it fits right in to the stock location.

I agree that there is not much fuel flow to be gained stopping the an6 line just after the filter. This is a temporary cost thing. What it does is save me from dropping the tank a second time. I only want to drop the tank once so I want ot do the pump and fuel line upgrade above the tank at the same time.

Then, at a later date, I can upgrade the rest of the line.

Tim, I'm still looking at the rails you posted, I just need to figure out what all the extra fittings and a pressure regulator will cost.

JD, I think your probably absolutely correct on the #6 fitting. I'll have to climb under for a look. Also, do you have a link to a true an6 fuel filter for me to look at?

Also, wouldn't the fuel line size leaving my fuel filter be 5/16th?

the helps really appreciated guys. I cant really afford to drop the tank and find out I don't have the right stuff. Its not easy to get this kind of thing locally.

No the line is 5/16 but connector should be 3/8 same as the tank.I ""think""

Great find on that filter. I didn't see it.

The 5.0 rail fittings are different, and I can't even get at them to see what's needed to go to an6 right to the factory rail (or fuel pressure regulator). This is just an easy solution to save me labour down the road.

O gotcha. Figures they would be different. Staying tuned;) my parts should be in Wednesday

This is a better filter and fits right in the rail where the stock one is, or at least on a ohv where its under the driver in the frame rail.its 40microns and flows 130gph@75psi

http://m.summitracing.com/parts/sum-230101

Think you missed the point tho.it would be cheaper to run it to the rail.less fittings..

How is that a better filter? The one I had picked out and Dono plans to use filters at 10microns and flows 330gph @ 40psi.. Now granted, it is over kill but the one you are showing is not better. I just noticed that the summit racing brand fuel filter says that it is for use with carbureted systems...

I can't say for sure on this but I'm pretty sure that the connector on the fuel filter is 5/16". The one at the tank is noticeably larger which is the 3/8" fitting. 95% sure on this.

:salute:

I must have it backwards then because I thought I 40 was better than 10.that must be the size of item it filters down to.I just saw the higher the number the more expensive they got.it can be used for efi but has a max of 75psi that's why.it also has -6an in/out which means less fittings

Tank is 3/8 I'm 100% on that but the filter idk for sure.it does look slighty smaller..

Don run by a parts store and ask to measure a stock filter;)

YEA I WAS COMPLETELY WRONG AND SO WAS SUMMIT!! quote I just found

"""""Just got this confirmation from a Ford tech regarding the stock filter: Ford fuel filter specs call for multi point injection system to have a maximum rating of 10 microns absolute. Smaller is much better and filters of 5 microns absolute""""

So looks like I need to seed this back and find one that is 10m or less and has -6an in/out

That's for bringing this to my attention:salute:

no problem. I wasn't sure what the Ford recommendation was but I have some experience with filters. 10 microns was the smallest fuel filter I could find on Summit that had high flow capacity.

I had a hard time finding one that was 6an in and out in 10 microns for reasonable money that was reusable (or at least serviceable), which is why I choose the one I did.

:exp:

This is driving me crazy now.like you said they don't carry a -6an in/out.so my options are to do what you did, same filter and 4 fittings or use this filter and 2 fittings, only come out $4 cheaper tho.so let me ask you opinion on this filter and set up or would you just recommend going with the same filter and fittings like you did?

Filter and fittings

I just went with what you did.I have the -6an fittings already and the 1/2-6an is in stock at pep boys speed shop.the filter I got on ebay for $58 free shipping.I just hope it gets here by Saturday.

Thanks again man, life saver.LOVE THIS FORUM! !:D

No problem, glad I could help. I was going to suggest staying with the one you ordered because there is no special mounting required, it just slips right into the stock mount where with the Holly you would have to make something.
