2002 seized engine

My beloved 2002 Explorer's engine seized. It has been a great car, but lately the gears having been slipping, it has been stalling at idle, and two days ago the engine seized. I believe we are done. Thoughts?

Gears slipping? Could just have a jammed up lock up converter.

I was not aware of any other engine problems. It has 155K miles. I am the original owner, purchased right after 9/11 2001.

If you have a bad engine and a bad trans it would be pretty costly to replace both with reman units. But if you did I would think you would be in pretty good shape. Also you might find a good deal in a used engine and trans.

It all depends on what you want to spend. Can you afford payments on a new one? Do you want a used one that you would have to put some money into to get just right.

I have a 2005 xls and can't even get 3600 for it with 114000 miles on it.

It's not an easy decision.

What's makes you say it seized? Have you manually tried to spin it?

It's rather low mileage, but '02 don't command much these days. If you like the body style, you could pick up a 2005 for cheaper than fixing yours.
