Mobil 1 10 w 30 was my preferred oil until I recently conducted a mileage test using Mobil 1 5 w 30.

To summarize, I ran 6 tankfulls of highway driving ( with a small amount of in town mixed in ). To my glee, the results were good. I achieved an average of 0.85 MPG increase.

This is one of those “no costs” ways to boost gas mileage.

Give it a whirl.

I am off this weekend on a 1500-mile voyage and will see how it does there.

just a note.. I've noticed the same thing

Well i guess i will be going back to 5w30 oil.

I believe you but please explain how 5W30 can give better mileage than 10W30, when after the oil warms up, they are both 30 weight oil. Unless the mpg gain is when the oil is cold and thinner.

Well, it was kinda cold here in Florida lately.... the min 80s.

I just put Mobil 1 in my Mountaineer for the first time. I don't know what weight, as I actually paid someone to do it (DOH!). But the first thing I have noticed is a dramatic (1 mpg at least) DECREASE in mileage. I was averaging 16.8 or so, and now I'm around 15.7. I don't get it.
