80W90 Gear oil in Mazda 5 Speed

Thanks Slick Rick. Glad to hear it works for someone. We have cold winters so I don't think I should use MTL.

Good point! I remember starting my X on a cold evening, and when ever I put it in gear and started accelerating, it ( the transmission ) would shake quite a bit. The next time it was that cold and I had to use the X, I let it idle for a couple of minutes, and it ran perfectly.

Slick Rick, how long have you been using MTL? Also, how cold was it when you had shifting problems? I sent an email to Redline, and they stated the only reason for using ATF is to ease shifting in cold temps. No mention of better fuel economy, but I still think this is a reason also.

Chysler had a TSB for their Manual trannys that came factory filled with ATF. "if customer complains of transmission noise, drain ATF, and refill with 80W90 gear oil."
