Allaa's Ursula - 2008 Explorer XLT 4WD V6

Welcome to my new Elite registry.

My name is Allaa' and this is my Ursula (named by my wife) 2008 Explorer XLT .

Bought it Band new for $26133.33USD on Jan-10-2008 equipped with factory skid plate (for the tank), 3rd row seats with axillary A/C, key pad, parking asset (rear sensors) and auto headlights

I fill in love with the Ex from the first time I drove my friends 1998 explorer and that was on 2005, and when the time came for me to buy my first SUV, the explorer was the best compromise between price and specifications

and here she is:

The wooshing sound is related to EBC 3GD Series only (wide-aperture scraper slots and blind-drilled holes)

I wrote more details (included with how to video clips) about upgrading brake system in the following thread, hope you like it

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=318627

and don't you agree that with more power always requires more control???

Never heard this wooshing sound you are talking about, but knowing its from performance brake rotors, I think I could live with it :D. Hmm that's something to consider. I never really thought about better brakes, only engine and stuff, but now I have something to think about. Thanks for the insight.

Here is my dyno run after tuning

Mods at the time

JBA Headers #1674SJT, MagnaFlow Cat-Back #16773, AFe drop on filter #31-10074

Max power 181.9 HP and max torque 239.4 ft-lbs

Stock Dyno run

Max power 167.7 HP and max torque 201.4 ft-lbs

Very nice! What octane fuel do you run? I also wonder if the measurement of fuel octane is different in Saudi Arabia than the one used in the U.S.; I have heard this is the case with European gasoline.

Here in Saudi Arabia we use RON 91 and 95 octane unleaded fuel

which is equivalent to AKI [(R+M)/2] 87 and 91 octane respectively (USA system)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

the tuned run was with AKI 91

and stock run was with AKI 87

and according to the tuner, all my mods at the time ware useless "the car is similar to a stock because it does not breath freely" and he can extract more power and torque, if I installed cold air intake (hi flow intake)

now after installing the KKM and Hi flow cat I need to re-tune, maybe in the few next weeks

Today I had a second Dyno tuning with KKM CAI

Mods: KKM TrueREv #054004, JBA Headers #1674SJT, MagnaFlow Hi Flow Cat #46004, MagnaFlow Cat-Back #16773

Octane AKI 91

Max power 187.5 HP and max torque 226.1 ft-lbs

Mods: JBA Headers #1674SJT, MagnaFlow Cat-Back #16773, AFe drop on filter #31-10074

Octane AKI 91

Max power 181.9 HP and max torque 239.4 ft-lbs
5829770708_f623cdb313_o.jpg

and this is stock run

Octane AKI 87

Max power 167.7 HP and max torque 201.4 ft-lbs

Very impressive!

actually i'm thinking of removing the KKM and return to Stock air box with AFe drop on filter, because I think I need more torque than HP

and this what the Dyno runs shows clearly

don't you think so?

For a heavy truck used for offroading (such as ours), yes. Someone once told me that if you focus your modifications to increase torque at normal driving RPMs, the horsepower will take care of itself. Maybe not strictly true but in practice it seems to make sense.

Allaa', another thing to look at is that with the KKM your torque curve appears to stay flatter from 3500-4500. It might be the scaling of the graph that makes it difficult to compare, but generally a flatter torque curve is better than one that falls off more quickly.

You want torque to stay as high as possible over a larger RPM range...the KKM graph seems to indicate that. Although the peak torque is a lower number than with the stock intake, it stays closer to peak over a broader RPM range. With the KKM it also peaks 1000 RPM higher than it does with the stock airbox but is nearly at that peak about 1000 RPM before that.

So considering that, the KKM seems to be a good mod in your setup

Wicked photo's, look's like good times!
