New here and looking for some help with the cruise control. About 5 years ago the cruise went out, replaced the deactivation switch on the master cylinder and starting working again. Sport trac became a backup vehicle and sat for about 3 years with minimal use until it became my daily again. Now the cruise quit working again. Replaced the deactivation switch again, but no still no cruise. Replaced the steering wheel switches and still nothing. Any other ideas as to what it could be?

There's a lot of things it could be.

  • Central junction box fuse 10 7.5 amp is blown.
  • Speed control cable not attached to the throttle
  • Brake peddle position switch
  • Speed control cable
  • Speed control switches
  • Speed control servo
  • Anti-lock brake control module.
  • A bad wire somewhere.

I would check the brake pedal position switch. I took mine apart and cleaned the contacts. Started working.

Thank y’all for the recommendations.
Fuse was not blown.
Speed control cable was attached.
Replaced the brake pedal switch and still no luck.
I have new speed control switches, but I guess those could still be bad.
I’ll investigate the other suggestions tomorrow.

Report back on your solution. It might help someone in the future.

master cyl deactivation switch
You can jumper that connection to test, instead of buying another.

I’m having the same issue. It’s on my back burner right now.

On some vehicles, LED tail lights will disable cruise control also (My '11 Sonata for instance) also low brake fluid sometimes.
