Expansion valve? Where is it?

I have a 96 Explorer 4.0L.

I'm working on the A/C system as the compressor has seized over the Winter.

I've heard talk of the "expansion valve". Where is it located? Should I replace it?

Or.....is the expansion valve another word for the orifice?

Short answer, yes.. They aren't the "same" your X uses the orifice tube instead of an expansion valve.
