Hello, 1992 Explorer XLT Here, 1-owner. Rececently had intermittent no-heat. I found that in the "fail mode" vacuum is always supplied to the heater control valve, closing it. My understanding is that vacuum should only appear under Max A/C. Removing vacuum line has restored heat. DIgging a little deeper, I learned that the outside air door is linked to the valve, and both should be closed at the same time. It appears outside air door is always open.
What controls the vacuum to these two components? I have ruled out a leak, since vacuum is present when it should not be. Thank you.
