How To: Upgrade and Beef-up 5R55W/S Transmissions

TFT & Level 10 rebuild kit

Do you monitor your transmission fluid temperature (TFT)? It must be difficult to keep it at a reasonable level driving in your climate? Maybe excess TFT is partly responsible for the early failure of your TCI Ultimate Master Racing Overhaul Kit.

How is the Level 10 rebuild kit holding up? Do you think it is superior to the OEM rebuild kit?
I want to know this also??

It appears he never installed the ""level 10 kit"" but used the OEM because the "level 10" didnt come in time and once it did come, sounds like he left the OEM kit installed instead..

Some of the links in The Electrician's original post are dead. I'm pursuing a transmission build for my 2003 (and eventually for my 2004 as well) so I've been working on finding current sources for the listed parts. Link to Google Sheet

I got TCI Parts for good baregn at buyracingparts.com

TCI Intermediate Jumbo Servo Kit #576005 - $68.40
TCI Overdrive Jumbo Servo #576006 - $68.40
TCI High Preformance Input Shaft #579600 - $150.00

and from Summitracing.com, I got Performance Automatic Deep Pan with Dipstick #PA27455KT - $339.15

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PMA-PA27455KT/

shipping to forward facility in USA (Shopandship.com) then to Saudi Arabia - $627.98

OEM solenoid Pack - $393.10

OEM Torque Converter - $643.37

Intallation in a local transmission workshop - $550

Updating computer strategy at Ford dealer - $40

so total = $3510.67

*******YIKES!!!! That's how much I paid for the Explorer***********

while I was searching http://www.fordparts.com I found that ford provides a master rebuild kit, MSRP price $376.52 and you can find it online as low as $284.19

Ford #7L2Z-7H575-A
Motorcraft #MTK-K2700-F

which includes everything you need for a complete rebuild

  • All New OEM Clutches
  • All New OEM Steels ( YOU WILL NEED STEELS!)
  • All New OEM Flex Bands
  • All New OEM Sealing Rings
  • All New OEM Metal Clad Seals
  • All New OEM Paper Gaskets
  • All New OEM O-Rings
  • All New OEM Gaskets

As it illustrated in the following diagram

you may need to add the following parts to the kit

Forward clutch piston
Low reverse piston
I guess the master rebuild kit might also need the OEM Valve Body Plate & Bonded Gaskets #4L2Z-7Z490-AA ??

For stock engine and reliability, how important are:
  • TCI Intermediate Jumbo Servo Kit #576005
  • TCI Overdrive Jumbo Servo #576006
compared with pump valve, shift kits and cold-start mods?
