Sounds like he bought it that way.

The explorer wasnt insured at the time because I didnt take ownership until after i noticed that stuff...UUuruugh..!

Maybe he bought it and when he went to go pick it up, someone had stole off it. Anyway, they should still be responsible for returning your car back to the condition in which the sale was agreed upon.

Good luck finding parts, although you shouldn't have to pay.
