Identify this piece

Got my book finally. I think this is something I'm gonna try. First question I have is are there any tricks to get the top bolts out of the bellhousing without removing the intake manifold? On the V6 you can see them from back by the transfer case, and with about 3 feet of extension and a swivel I can get them from back there, looks much worse on the V8. It's gonna be a few weeks before I even get the trans out to start the rebuild, but any tips and advice before had would be MUCH appreciated.
