I couldn't fix the thing on my own, since replacing the shaft speed sensors located on the transfer case didn't work. I brought it in to get looked at by Ford, and they told me they needed to reprogram the GEM (sp?) computer module. Cost $150, dont know if I got ripped off or not, but it was less than I had anticipated spending on fixing a nasty noise coming from the control trac 4x4.

you may have been ripped! There was a recall on the GEM's from 98-99.

Oh Great

Is there any place I can print that out from to bring to the dealer? I will need it real soon, since I am picking it up at 8:00 tonight.

Thanks.

I found this site when deciding if I should buy my Ex or not.

A lot of info, hope it helps.

Try this link. I didn't see the gem recall, but here's nhtsa's list. You have to enter Ford Truck, not Ford for the make.
