Mazda B2300

Ihave a Mazda B2300 2.3l eng. Check engine light came on. I used my OBDII to see what code I had. It was 0597 cruise control/circuit open. The problem is I don`t have cruise control and have lost alot of power. Can anyone help me with this problem. Thanks

P0597 is not for the cruise control. It is for "thermostat heater control circuit open". Unlike other Ranger/B-series engines, your 2.3 has an electrically operated thermostat. If the code P0597 is not due to a simple wire problem, then the thermostat itself has probably failed. Unfortunately, the replacement is a complete assembly and goes for well over $200 from a Ford dealer. WWW.RockAuto.com has the same OE Ford part for $123. Last I heard, this part is not available in the aftermarket.
