So been lurking off and on for awhile, got another explorer that's in really clean condition and want to educate myself on getting the most out of it.

So with that in mind the explorer I got is a 2002 XLS 4x4. It has 160k miles. the engine does not have any worrying sounds like timing chains or anything sounds great and the tranny shifts smooth as butter, although it is a bit delayed. I put it in drive and 1-2 seconds later pops in. No clunk or jolt. When driving going from what feels like 1-2 or maybe even 2-3 it goes to shift followed by a delay then kicks in. Even though the shifting is smooth this delay or drag concerns me. I paid 3900 which is high, but in my area was the best deal, its crazy around this area for used vehicles.

Only other issue is the air blender motor but I can replace that myself.

Looks very clean and otherwise runs amazing. So I have some questions.

1. What should I do about this tranny, to preserve/fix this issue?

2. What maintenance should I do right now for this high mileage beauty?

3. Any bigs I need to keep an eye/ear out for?

Here is a pick of her.
