I followed the advance of many posts here concerning rough idle on my 98 explorer. The IAC (Idle air control)valve was the culprit. 67.00$ from the dealer. Put it in myself.. very easy. By looking at the threads here, it seems to be a problem. The dealer wanted 500$ to put in a IAC valve and MAF sensor. Score one for the 'do it yourselfers'.

Is it possible to clean the IAC valve? My Ex stalls only when it's warm :(

I've seen many posts here that state that you should at least try to clean it. Once you have it off you can see where the carbon builds up around the valve. I replaced mine because I already had the part. I would definetly try to clean it. It only takes about 5 minutes to take it out.

Search on IAC here, and get the other's suggestions on what to clean it with.

Good luck!
