Rough Idle

I have searched the forums and cant find a satisfactory answer for the gen1 explorer.

I get a really rough idle, and my garage smells real bad of gas. I have replaced the PCV valve, cleaned the IAC valve, and cleaned the MAF. I changed plugs, wires and run injector cleaner. The truck has awesome power and gets great gas milage. But it is embarrassing that it idles so bad... and the smell!!! Please give some suggestions, I need help!! It has the 4.0 ohc....

Are you getting any check engine light?

Sounds like your FPR could be going bad

no CEL. Is the FPR replaceable? would it lead to the gassy smell even when the engine isn't running? Thanks

I had the same problem...I used Champion plugs instead of Motocraft and it ran like crap...I then put in the standard Motorcraft plugs and she runs like a charm...Hope all goes well......

A bad FPR would lead to a gassy smell.But I am not sure that is your problem

Check for vacuum leaks. Gas smell while not running might be the Evap Cannister thing.
