That's toast, the pinion gear and the bearings are destroyed, that is way too much side movement. Is that a 4WD truck or what? I'd bet it was driven in 4WD for a long while.
I had that happen with the front diff, of my last 98 AWD. If the viscous clutch of an AWD locks up, it's the same as being in 4WD on dry pavement, and the forces will ruin other parts.

Nah it's good ole TSB 05-23-3 that was never addressed and allowed to go on noisy until just recently it started vibrating violently and leaking all the gear oil out.

That TSB looks like a kit to replace everything except the housing and the diff. What was the issue to cause the whine, I've heard of it forever but not the real cause? I thought by now we'd know the problem, I was told the aluminum carrier was the core issue, but what is it that caused the whine, or for the gears to disintegrate like that video clip shows?
