Transmission Issues?

1995 Explorer XLT / 2WD / 4DR / 222k miles

Ok, I have no transmission work experience so I'm not sure where to find the problem here. My O/D Off Light is blinking. I've read all over these forums about the O/D Light flashing and replacing solenoids. Basically, I'm just stuck because I've never worked with it before...

Start with the basics:

1) get the codes read (most national auto part chains will do it for free) and report back
2) when was your last fluid and filter change?
3) when was the last time the bands were adjusted?
4) report back with your tranny type (see link below)

1) I'll try to get that done tomorrow
2) I had the trans fluid and coolant changed about a month ago.
3) No idea
4) I think it's a 4R55E in a 1995 4.0L V6

Murk,
From experience, you will get plenty of help and support from the group here. I started out with much the same symptoms and the forum support gave me the confidence to pull and work on a tranny problem for the first time. The valve body rebuild and tranny swap I did had a number of twists and turns, but the end result is a great performing tranny with no problems. Hang in there.
