I decided to invest the money into tools and take on doing my own brakes. I will be doing all 4 wheels, rotors and pads.

What tools will I need for this job.

Thanks!

  • C-clamp (6" or bigger is best)
  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Brake fluid (only a few ounces)
  • Turkey baster (or something else to remove brake fluid)
  • Ratchet/socket wrench
  • Torque wrench
  • Caliper lube
  • Rubber mallet (rear rotors especially may be stubborn and need a few whacks)
  • Brake cleaner (I'd say 3 aerosol cans minimum)
  • Vinyl or nitrile gloves
  • Tire iron & whatever else is normally needed to remove wheel

At least that's what got me by when I did mine 2 months ago. Was going to fix the parking brake but decided it would be too difficult to do myself because of the little springs and what not.

Anyone know of a clear video with step by step instruction for my truck?

What size Torque wrench?
What type of battery powered wrench would remove the lugs easily?

Its pretty simple and straight forward when you get the wheels off. Just remember to open the reservoir cap when you clamp the caliper piston down.

What settings should the Torque wrench be set to?
