wont reverse when in reverse

99 ranger 3.0 4x4 all forward gear work great in both 2wheel drive and 4wheel drive but once u put it in reverse it tries to move but its like its not gettin enough fluid or something any help would be nice

You might have a broken shift fork in the transfer case.

no the fork is good i think its transmission range sensor because it will try to move if u feather the gas enough

You could check to see if the reverse lights are on when it goes into reverse. If it doesn't, then you could adjust the range sensor. Either way, the range sensor wouldn't prevent it from going into reverse. How do you know that the shift fork isn't broken?

ive poped it open to see what the problem when it first happened the light do come on like i said it will move but it acts like a manual tranny with a very bad clutch
