Someone must have a service manual. Can you tell me what each of the 5 relays does in there position. They are located to the left of the airbox in a separate box. They are not documented in the owners manual.

No, Although that is not the same as mine it is documented and has info under the lid. The one is to the left of the airbox on the passenger side and just below the bottom level. There are two near the rear small ones and a big one in the middle and two ahead of it also the same size as the rear pair.

Yes, that is the box. What year is that for though. I see the two small relays at the bottom and two large ones above it. My 02 has two small ones on the other side or top side of the High Speed blower relay. I know one of them is for fog lights.

it is for a 96, my bad, i will load up the one for the 02 in a second.

Oh man, not quite. The Explorer Sport I am told has some commonality with Slightly earlier Explorers. Your image of "Relay Box 2" was the closest. However there are 2- pairs of small relays and 1 - large one in the middle. Your 96 shot showed 2 large relays and a pair of small ones. It was half way their. I must also say that that box shape, size and mounting tabs are identical, unlike the most recent post. So so close...

I really appreciate your efforts in this search. Thanks

That would be Auxiliary Relay Box #1. In no particular order:
-Fog Lamp Isolation Relay
-Fog Lamp Relay
-Windshield Washer Relay
-High Speed Fan Control Relay (for the blower motor)
-Rear Washer Pump Relay

Interesting that they're not listed in the owner's manual... I checked all four versions printed for an '02 Sport just to be sure... no beans. Weird?!

Ok process of elimination and from pic from Team. The large relay is the High Speed blower motor, since Ford already used one in the 96 I saw and no reason to change that. I know one of the 4 small ones are for the fog lights. Since they weren't working when I got the Sport but had worked when looking at it weeks earlier. I swapped the small relays all around and the lights came on. So I figures one relay was bad or a bad contact in the socket although extremely tight. What supprises me is that their are two relay for the fog lights. Hmmm

Front and rear washer are both working fine.

The double relay is there to turn off the fog lamps when you turn on the high beams. (FMVSS requires that the OEMs not allow more than four headlamps to be on at any time) Flash-to-pass is different... they stay on for that, but when the low beams go off (when the high beams come on) they isolation relay cuts the power to the fog lamp relay.
