Hey, what kits do you guys recommend for an Aftermarket head unit install? Im assuming all I need is the mounting bracket that fills in the space from the stock head unit, and then a Ford to Pioneer adapter (Pioneer head unit). Anything else im forgetting?

All you need is the Mounting kit, they are almost all the same you can find it on crutchfield.
Then you will need a wiring harness that you can pick up at walmart for a few bucks or you can order it with your Mounting kit.
Depending on the headunit you may need a universal antenna adapter but since it's a Pioneer you probably won't.
Think that about covers it besides the tools

Sounds good man, just what I wanted to hear.

one word... crutchfield

get the install kit from them it gives you detailed instructions on how to remove the old one and install the new one, a custom bezel, and custom wiring harness which just snaps into the factory one.

here is how my headunit turned out

My X has buttons on the steering wheel for volume and stations and stuff like that, will i still be able to use those in this setup?

I just put in a AVH-P4200DVD receiver from Pioneer and I ordered through Crutchfield. That is the way to go. They send detailed instructions and all the wiring harness. I have a '04 Limited V8 AWD with steering wheel controls so I went ahead and ordered PAC SWI-PS and it was the most difficult part of the installation but nothing you couldn't handle in an afternoon. It was well worth the extra $70.

You need a wiring harness and a dash kit. And a radio :)
