V8 Engine Cover Pics - is this factory?

When I was shopping for my Explorer the last 2+ months, I noticed all the V8's I've seen did NOT have a cover. Well lo and behold, the one I ended up buying HAS a cover. Is this what came on them from the factory? Do most people just rip them off?

When I was shopping around, it seemed it was mainly the EB's and Limiteds that consistently had the cover. My Limited has it.

I think it's year dependent. There's a pretty comprehensive thread on this.

Yes it's factory and I have one. I believe only 02-03 V8's had this cover and the 04-05's did not.

02 limited had one

Ditched it into the garage. like to see when hoses blow off ect. looks good though when it was on.

yes, but you'll likely need the mounting bracket, as the 04's I've seen do not have it. I can actually take a pic of it tomorrow if you'd like.

ya that would be cool.. I am just curious. It is a part i dont "need". but if i come across one cheap enough i wouldnt mind it.

I actually like the cover. It gives it a nice, clean look. Maybe it also keeps everything physically cleaner underneath

all the 02's and 03's had them, unless the owner took it off. Ford stopped putting them on for 04+

the brackets on the 04 are different? any pics?

as for the coolant, you can see my other thread. My Limited has a head gasket leak and I've spent the last two weeks trying to isolate and diagnose the leak. You should be able to run green also. It's Orange that cannot be run.

They sure aren't much to look at. I guess I can see why the cover was installed - it's cheaper than tidying up the top of the engine.:
