Ouch! That is really too bad. It appears that most parts should be relatively easy to replace. Looks like the lift gate escaped damage. Not sure what they will do with the wheel well. I'm guessing that they may try to 'bang' it back into shape. Hopefully there isn't any 'frame' damage. I guess the replacement parts will be painted prior to being installed on the Explorer so the whole vehicle shouldn't have to be redone.
Good luck. Hope the rest of the new year is more kind to you and your Ex.

Peter

Hope no one was injured. I read where the police version is suppose to withstand up to a 75mph rear impact. Perhaps Sgt1411 can comment on this. Any idea of the impact speed?

Just another example of people with their heads up their a**! No one pays attention to their surroundings or keeping a prudent distance, and when the Ins companies are through, they find that part of it is your fault!

What does IPMS stand for? Hope it's not what I think. :)

Yes, your right both the Sedan and Utility Interceptor are rated to 75mph rear crash. GM and Chrysler police versions are not.

Thats one of the main reasons Ford wont put a battery in the rear of their police versions.

GM and Dodge have rear mounted batteries in some models.

Im not sure if the retail versions of the Ex and Taurus are 75mph.

DAYUM Sterlinggold! That really SUX.

Well I went to my servicing dealer and they did a preliminary estimate at $4900! They have to replace the entire exhaust system, Entire rear floor belly pan, Rear bumper, covers and hitch. That is just the start!

I think I will ask for a new vehicle or repair and compensation for diminished value!

Would be interested to hear how the diminished value argument goes. My wife was driving my company car and was rear-ended with 1000 miles on the clock. Damage was $26k. When the car was sold after 6 months, the diminished value was a solid $10k, but the company didn't get anything from insurance for it. With a high sales volume car, like the Explorer, it would be an uphill battle.

That said, sorry to hear about your accident, and glad no one was hurt!

$26k and they fixed it? What kind of car was it?

2007 911 Cab--basically 25% of sticker price for repairs. The hit was hard enough to push her into a car carrier, so there was some front damage also. No frame or engine damage though.

My ins. adjuster stated that since I was NOT at fault, in VA I can claim Diminished Value on the third party's ins. co.

I did not know you could get a settlement for diminished value. Good to know. Hopefully never need to use that though.

Blichy, a 911 cabriolet for a company car, dang. Sign me up!

Depends on the state. After you get your vehicle fixed you go and get a trade in price. One listing the price before the accident and one after the accident. Carfax is one of the reasons this has came about. You can, depending on the state file a claim for the difference which is the amount of a hit you would take trying to sell or trade your vehicle.
