Anybody know who made these? They were on my 91 EX when I bought it 20 years ago. I always liked them a lot better than most others I've seen because they look factory. I've only once seen another explorer with them.

I recently had some damage to my left fender that destroyed one and now can't find one to match.

Excuse the awkward angle of the photo, just getting the vehicle going again after being parked for two years. I just finished up head gaskets that I've been putting off. First ones I've ever done. No big deal, just took some time.

Thanks for any help in tracking these down.

Those are Bushwacker brand flares.

They were discontinued quite awhile ago, so they are hard to get new. You may have luck on here asking if anyone has any to sell in the Parts Wanted section. Plenty of people bought them, but they have turned out to be as durable on the trail as they are in a fender bender, and so it's a matter of whether anyone has the particular one you need for that side.

If it's the one for the front fender, the 89-92 Ranger used the same application, so you can search for that model as well. These were commonly used on the rear of Explorers when using flared fiberglass fenders in the front, so rears might be easier to get.

If you don't find anything and still want flares, the factory fender flares from most newer Explorers up to 1998-2000 or so will fit as well.

I think those are Warn 4x flares.

Doubt they still make them though.

Bushwacker likely made the original ones for Warn and so they are the same thing.

The "new" ones Warn came out with in the early 2000's were different, likely because Buchwacker discontinued their original design and went to the "bolted on" look with visible fasteners.

Sounds like a good opportunity for someone to clone them. Might not be enough demand though. Companies rarely stop making a product that is selling well.

Might have to go that route and paint them in textured black or bedliner. Obviously it is more for looks than function because I'm only running tires a bit bigger than stock. I'll be repainting the whole truck next summer, so I've got some time. It suffers from peeling clear coat on the hood and top.

Gonna go with the stock red on top, but a darker charcoal on bottom, with black flares. I may pull the rims off, strip them and anodize/dye in a gun metal grey. I think they'll just fit in my anodize tanks if I do them one at a time.

I pulled a set off an Eddie Bauer edition EX for the rear of mine. Had to drill into the stock rear fenders, but it was relatively easy to do. Didn't need the front ones because I have custom fronts from Haniman Fiberglass. Good luck.

I'll have to start browsing the boneyards for some of those. Thanks for the tip.

Glad to finally be of some use to someone here in the forum.
