I had to pull the Upper intake manifold on my SOHC to get to the stuck PCV valve so that I could replace it. When I got the manifold off I found that both the upper and lower intakes were coated with oil. I assume that the fact that the PCV valve had never been changed probably had a lot to do with this. Here are the Pics.

Does anyone consider this much of an issue?

I plan on just using some carb clearer on the upper intake while it is out.

Back in the day I would have just hit the lower intake with carb cleaner as well but I'm not sure that is the right thing to do anymore with modern (1998) engines.

Just curious to hear any thoughts before I put it all back together

And yes I was able to get the PCV valve to come out easily once I pulled the upper intake.

As Always thanks in advance for any advice.

Also I took a lot of pics taking the upper intake manifold apart to remember how to put it back together. I plan on writing up a how to when I get the chance (just found out that I have to drive 6 hours tomorrow for an emergency job so probably no write up until after the weekend.
