anyone have a timesert kit #5553 for rental? PO used a ****ty dorman product to repair the stripped spark plug hole, and while it's been ok, there is a misfire in that cylinder still

I cleaned out all the oil from a leaking intake manifold (goign to change that in the next week or so) and it's still misfiring. The dorman product puts the spark plug like an inch or so above where it needs to be, which I'm assuming is awful for spark timing, not to mention the coil can't be fastened properly.

also can anyone suggest a shop in the boston area (within 100 miles) that fixes ford spark plug threads or offer any advice.

I prefer the timesert method over helicoiling it

When I repaired mine with the dorman insert (and long plug), I had to grind the corners off the insert so it would fit down and seal in the hole. Been 3 years and zero problems with it. Also keep a spare dorman repair kit on-board in case another plug blows out of my 4.6. Dorman 42025

you don't have a problem with the plug sitting so far away from normal with the dorman kit? Unless the previous owner installed it wrong, mine looks like this:

you're supposed to use a different plug (3V used in Ford 150) which are longer and a smaller boot.
the 3v plugs are prone to separation too, so look for the redesigned version.

so the 3V plug is just the one from an F150? what year? the plug installed is identical to all the others, must be the problem.

It's a much longer plug to make up the length lost from dorman adapter. I've had it out last month with no problems. Adapter is lok-tite into the original hole with some jb weld. New plug, boot and adapter all in the kit

I just bought iridium plugs too, think it'll be a problem sign 7 iridium 1 not (assuming dorman isn't).

Shouldn't induce a problem.

so it looks like the dorman tool creates a 5/8"-18 thread in the head? I guess I can't use the heli-coil kit since its m14....let's hope getting the right plug for the PO's fix cures everything

Might want to make sure it's in there good first, and compression check good.

:salute::salute:Hello everyone seems like you guys in this thread are excellent in spark plug issue
So can anyone help me with the firing order diagram for my 2004 explorer 4.0 XLT

helicoil the threads. that stuff works great. might have to pull the head but any good machine shop can do it, but if the dorman kit is too big now you might be SOL and looking for a new head for the thing.
