Hello. I am just getting into DIY car repair/modifications. When fixing a dash light, I came across this plastic cylinder which led to what I believe is the place for a factory microphone. Can anyone confirm this? I do not have the original manual to the vehicle. Also, what are these wires for? Power or information? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

That is the sensor for your auto hvac system...
It senses the inside temp so the system can maintain whatever you set automatically

Were microphones installed prior to 2008? I didn't think they were. I thought that Ford first began to install them with the SYNC system in 2008. And even then, the microphone is in the rear view mirror--at least that's where it is on my 2010 Sport Trac.
