Picked up a 17 Sport & Question

Tip of this iceberg on this transaction, but they were held in check every step, helps that they want to sell the car so bad, heh. They even tried to include $6,000 in maintenance/warranty plans while doing everything they could to not mention it.
The only thing that I see was wrong here was him trying to sell you the lettering since it is standard. I don't see anything wrong with the person trying to sell you a maintenance or warranty plan. After all they are sales people and most sales people earn their income in 'sales'. I would expect nothing less than having them try to 'up sell' me on things I don't want. I have dealt with the same salesman for my past 3 vehicles and it was a pleasure to do so each time. The only thing I buy extra is the ESP.

First off the dealer tried to up sell him on a standard item that should have on the vehicle, but was not. Secondly, he stated that this was the tip of the iceberg in the price negotiation and thirdly they tried to up sell up on maintenance/warranty that exceeded 10% of the the price of the vehicle, etc. $6,000 is more than excessive for a maintenance/warranty IMO, especially since the vehicle is essentially covered for the first three years or 36,000 miles if I recall correctly. It also sounds like there were many more details that other uniformed or gullible customers probably gobble up. Simply put, not a dealer I would ever buy a car from and one of the reasons I stay as far away from them as possible.

Here's what happened. It was 10pm, the dealership had been closed for 2 hours and I was in the finance office finalizing everything. We were all tired. The finance guy was doing the usual "focus me on the monthly payments and nothing else" routine. By the end of the transaction, I was set to sign and he mentioned it was a 72 month loan. The whole time I had been thinking I was getting a 5-year loan. They tacked on a 6th year to accommodate the two maintenance/warranty plans...lol.

Having bought a lot of new cars in the past it was pure entertainment for me. The Explorer was $39k out-the-door so I felt I already had done well on the deal. I was tired, and actually accepted the whole thing, knowing I'd simply cancel the plans later this week, heh.

So in a related note to the original post about missing hood emblems, I have my new 2017 Sport at the dealership right now for some warranty work. Basically a few body panels were not flush and the gaping was incorrect, all of which they are fixing without question. However I received a call this afternoon and they asked me about my roof rails and if I noticed anything funny about them. I was worried that there was something really wrong. They the service advisor explained that one of the body shop guys noticed that the drivers side roof rail was black, as it should be for a sport, but the passenger side was silver. I guess this is something that was missed during the QA process. Wondering if anyone else has found issues like this with their new vehicles? BTW - the dealership is of course correcting the issue ASAP.

Not yet, but I'll be going over our new EX. PLAT. without a doubt. Q.C. as ford calls it these days does not impress me. Just getting out of a bad 2015 Lincoln MKX experience ( bad bodyfit, bad engine, wind noise, POS) and will trade it in.
No way should body-panel adjustments have to be made at a dealer. All that should be done at the Plant

Good catch by the dealership. I wonder who is running around with the other 'pair'?;)

Good morning Pete. Just goes to show how 'hit and miss' Q.C. can be. My 2014 MKT was great. All panels fit perfectly, great engine (Ecoboost) and very quiet cabin. I agree about the panel adjustments being made at the plant but there are several posts here about adjustments having been made by the dealership or their body shop. I'd be surprised though if Ford was the only manufacturer with that issue from what I've seen at times.

It's actually fairly common... back when I picked up my Ford F150 2009 Lariat, it was missing the left side fender molding. I noticed it ONLY after washing it by hand... the dealer said is must have been a Friday truck. It took weeks to order and schedule an install of the special order trim molding.

the Sport has it on the hood. all others do not

Sorry .....that's incorrect.

My 17 Sport has panel adjustments needed too, the driver's side doors are flush to the body, the passenger side doors are sunk in about 1/8". Easy to feel when you run your hand across the seam between doors and body.

When I purchased my 14 Limited I asked about the Explorer Badge on the hood. When I came to pick it up, they had put it on at no charge. Looks great.

Here's my 17 sport in Quartz. This was last fall right after I got winter rim/tires installed. So that's the emblems on the front. Does yours differ?

Peter, you are correct. My wife's Ford is pretty darn good. I have had to adjust the driver's side doors on my '16 Chevy Tahoe, though. Body panel alignment and gap has always been an issue, but as cars get "edgier" it becomes easier to spot. But no problem, that is why they make them adjustable!
