That hose is hanging down still hooked to transfer case on 2020 ford explorer. Has a heat shield and goes forward toward the engine. It has a broken plastic fitting attached to it. Is this a vent hose? Anybody have a pic of the part number? No lights in the dash are on so I assume it's safe to drive yet? First pic is the hose location above the drive shaft , can barely see it.

Found out it is a vent hose that's supposed to have a vent end cap on the end of it. Looks like it just clipped on some where. It is 1/4 inch inside diameter. Anybody know where to get a breather end cap or filter to fit this? Looked online but no luck. Don't need a new hose. I assume it just vents outward.

It may just come as one part. I don't see how it is a "breather tube" if it has an end cap on it. Looks more like a drain tube to me.

It is a vent/breather. On my ‘97, there is one for the front differential, the rear differential, the transfer case, and the transmission. Option: You can run your vent hoses up higher in the engine bay to increase function in water crossings; for the rear differential, run the vent hose up higher behind the driver’s side tail light assembly. The vent cap helps keep dirt and water out of the system. Mine worked great after the flooding from the most recent hurricane down this way.

Easy to attach these to rubber fuel line. Be sure to use fuel line as vacuum or washer fluid line would probably deteriorate quickly on this application. (You do NOT need fuel injection hoses, as this is extremely expensive.)

Available at Auto Zone. Good luck…

K sounds good, couldn't find a cap to match up with the 1/4 inside diameter so just going to us the 5/16 cap and reduce it down. Thanks for the help.

The rubber line will almost surely flex enough to seat nicely. Maybe use some Vaseline to help it slide on.

Good luck!
