    Transmission Fluid

Does the transmission need to be changed in this generation of Explorer? I have heard yes and no. It's doesn't have a dip stick and as far as I know it doesn't even have a drain plug. My vehicle, which I am trying to sale, has 106K miles on it and I would like to change the transmission fluid...

Is it time to part with this '03 Explorer?

My wife spent 3 hours vacuuming it and ran it through a car wash. There is no rusting and the vehicle looks good. Of course they did an inspection. They told my wife the engine was knocking. When the engine is running, you can barely hear it, the engine that is. There is no knocking. The...

Is it time to part with this '03 Explorer?

I have a 2002 Explorer. No problems with the transmission yet and engine runs very quite. V8, I just bought a 2014 Cruze and for giggles I took the explorer in and ask about trade in. They offered me $1k, to "take it off my hands" even though the SOB runs fine. The only issue us I need to...

    02 explorer issues (4x4 & door ajar)

I'm a little confused here. Sounds like you have two issues, if the door ajar indication stays on when you shut the door and you have isolated which door it could be the switch which is not too bad to fix. First I would spray little WD40 in the locking assembly. The first time it happened to...

How to: 2002 Explorer rear wheel bearing replacement (pictures)

Great write up. Did you replace the coil spring as well? I understand coil and strut are one piece. So you have to buy both. I had my rear wheel bearing replaced in 2007. Since then I have put 50k miles on it. Hopefully they will last. Anyway, I have to search on how to replace the...

    New Here 02 4.6L Explorer

You were able to do a direct swap? I thought, but be wrong, the ECM changed from PTEC to Blackoak from 02 to 03. Maybe it was 04 then. Anyway, sounds like at the very least some 03 cylinder heads would do the trick may be. Don't know how tough it is to change heads in one of these things...

    New Here 02 4.6L Explorer

That is what I was told my a mechanic. There is a procedure in place that to prevent or at least mitigate the risk this very thing from happening. The helicoils in place now, I was told by the guy who did it, should last he explained some method and different adhesive he was using and said...

    New Here 02 4.6L Explorer

Well the plugs were replaced at the dealership, so they were installed properly I presume. I tried placing the dealership at fault, but their records show they replaced the plugs with recommended plug at the correct torque values. Since the vehicle had 55k miles on it, it was no longer under...

    New Here 02 4.6L Explorer

I was wondering if there are cast iron aftermarket heads for an 02 explorer? I have had 5 plugs blow out of the cylinder head, which are aluminum, and had to have them helicoiled. Not sure how long the helicoil is going to last and not sure when the next plug will blow out. The vehicle itself...
