    Air conditioning problem

Okay Guys/ Gals, Here's a good one for you! I had my 93 Explorer converted to R-134 after the R-12 leaked out. That was all fine and good for about two weeks. Then we went on a long trip, pulled a trailer (800#), overheated, lost the A/C, and showed up for a re-charge and T-shooting of the...

    No more heated air.....

No More Heated Air (the mystery solved) All, After several months of struggling to find why I have no heat, I think I found the problem. Wifey took the thing on a long trip and blew the head gasket. Now, since the head gasket was breached, wouldn't the air from a (the) cylinder be...

    No more heated air.....

Thanks for your replies and help! TPLYNCH- you asked if I had changed the connector for the heater hoses......As far as I know it couldn't be simpler- two nipples, one for the water pump and one on the intake manifold. Obviously there are the ones on the heater core itself. What am I...

    No more heated air.....

STILL no hot air!! Well, here we go again! I started experiencing no hot air again. This time I flushed the heater core, the hoses to and from, replaced the radiator cap, and changed the thermostat again (3rd time since July). I had noticed fluctuations in the temp gauge previously, and after...

    No more heated air.....

Fix For Mysterious Cooling/ Heating Problems To COAST (and others) I broke down and bought a new water pump, installed it yesterday and VOILA! coolant now flows through the heater core hoses and I have hot air inside the vehicle. This comes after chasing the thermostat idea 3 times...

    No more heated air.....

Hey Coast, I think you are right on the money with your assessment. The water pump has been in the back of my head for some time.........how big a hassle is it? I have to do something- winter is here! Thanks!

    No more heated air.....

Well, I have looked and looked- no heater control valve to be found on my '93. Very flaky stuff going on- after using the vehicle for hunting for a week with good heat. I come back to Denver and during my morning commute, no heat again. The gauge is riding in the middle of the NORMAL range...

    No more heated air.....

Okay- I changed the thermostat- it helped for a day or two, but it would never get warm consistently. I did verify that the old thermostat was sticky. I am about ready to jam some cardboard in front of the radiator and be done with it. Could it be the water pump is weak?

    No more heated air.....

Hey Guys, Checked in this morning and found my exact problem being discussed! My '93 is experiencing identical problems, and I have verified all the door positions through the Chilton Manual (if it can be believed). Tomorrow I plan to change the thermostat (again) and then look at the...

    The Ole' FPR issue

Thanks to all! It will have to wait until I have the motivation (or the truck quits running). I am an aircraft mechanic and I HATE working on cars, but I guess it beats the auto repair shop in town that charges $65/hr. Suddenly the damned thing is running and starting much better! And I am...

    The Ole' FPR issue

Thanks, I had my lovely wife try your procedure this morning. She reports that the fuel pump (or something) did run after she turned the key ON. I asked her to repeat that procedure a few times and she said the beast started right up. SO......... I guess maybe I am looking at a bad fuel pump...

    The Ole' FPR issue

Okay- I used the search program and read the FPR and Fuel Pump Relay posts. My problem is hard starting. Yes, I understand it's a Ford and it's normal to be a hard starting pain in the butt. I have been told it's the fuel filter, but I doubt this because there isn't much flow during start up. I...

    TornadoAir Mod

Thanks for the input, much appreciated. While I should use the "search" feature to address this, I will say that since buying this vehicle that its had a clunking in the steering column. It recently got worse (wife called saying the front-end was falling apart) so I tore into it thinking the...

    TornadoAir Mod

Hey people! Recently acquired a '93 Explorer and like it except that it seems to eat a lot of gas for the engine size. It also is gutless at higher elevations (trips to Colorado). I recently saw the TornadoAir web site, and while it looks like a decent idea, it seems to restrict rather than help...
