    Auto liftgate troubles

Hey hey. Finally got a chance to tinker with the Explorer today. Liftgate chimes are working when the liftgate close. The chime is weak, so weak that I actually have never heard it but the wife confirmed it is sounding but very faint. Peter I reread your link to the thread about the rear dome...

    Auto liftgate troubles

OK Perter. thanks. Looks like I don't have foot activated. I also don't have the bell chimes working yet either. I hope this weekend to try to troubleshoot that. Too many extra obligations have hit me all at once.

    Auto liftgate troubles

I think I know the control unit you are referring to sheltonfilms. We had removed it during the repair to that quarter panel. I'm almost certain it is reinstalled and plugged in correctly. I don't have the trim molding installed in that quarter so I can see the control unit and it does appear to...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Thanks for that follow up. I read your link and was confused but I think it is just because I'm very tired at the moment. I will reread it again this weekend and go out to do some experimenting. One other thing , When opening and closing the liftgate after finally getting it to work I think...

UPDATE : My liftgate latch mechanism/motor came in today. I installed it and the liftgate works automatically now ! Happy ! Previously , taking the shotgun approach I had replaced the power lift cyinder but that didn't do the trick. I removed the power lift cylinder and reinstalled the old one...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Well I got some really great assistance from sheltonfilms here on the board. It appears the switch/motor/module that latches/unlatches my power liftgate has failed. I haven't priced a new part yet and may also look for one used from a recycle yard. Not sure on that yet. I won't get a chance to...

I am I'm sure which particular download for forscan I should choose. I'm going to be a while getting this tablet setup and pairing the adapting scanning tool with it. I'm kind of slow with technology and the wife will be helping me here in a little while hopefully. If you have a chance to call...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Thanks for the video. The scan tool and tablet arrived today. Will see what I can do tomorrow. I did use a jump wire on the top switch on my latch and when I push the button the liftgate started going down automatically.

    Auto liftgate troubles

Wowza ! First off, I really appreciate this assistance. I certainly didn't expect anyone to go to those lengths. Awesome to say the least. Now, when my equipment gets here in a couple days it'll be interesting to see how challenging the learning curve is gonna be for me. By looking at the pics...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Well my lovely wife decided to go ahead and order the scanner and a small compatible tablet . I believe it is a Galaxy. Should be here by Tuesday. I work Monday and Tuesday so Wednesday I will see if I'm smart enough to use this equipment. The Explorer is gonna be the daily driver for the wife...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Thank you for this info. Possibly I might go for the OBDlink MX. I read some info about it and it sounds like a very useful tool. Quite a bit of the terminology I didn't understand but could probably learn to use it to my benefit. Not sure if we have any Android based tablets around here or not...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Ok, I did a quick google search for the OBD2 Bluetooth adapter. If I had the right results pulled up it looks like there are a wide variety of them available from $10 and up. My mobile phone is an I phone and my laptop is a PC. Any suggestions on a particular OBD2 Bluetooth adapter that would...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Yes the latch opens when pressing any of the controls. When manually closing if you push it down gently it latches once and then after that it pulls the gate in a bit further and automatically latches the second time for a complete latch/close. When the liftgate is raised up if you push the...

    Auto liftgate troubles

I figured out where this mystery wire connection goes. It plugs into the trim molding that goes along the inside of the rear of the vehicle. It fits over the latch bar. The plug in is on the inside below the sthe latch bar. I don't know if it is something to do with an impact sensor or if it...

Here’s a couple pics to give you an idea how long the wire is and what the connection looks like I have the wire laid across the back seats to give an idea of how long it is.

    Auto liftgate troubles

If the liftgate control module is located inside the back corner right behind the heating/AC unit then yes, that black box has 3 connectors. They are all plugged in. Looks like the small one operates a small fan. So I still have to figure out where this other connector plugs in. Will try to...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Yes, that wire is in the rear driver quarter area. It is two wire, orange/white & brown/purple. It exits the wiring harness in the very lower left corner of the vehicle. From there it is about 2’long. I don’t know where it goes. I have a couple pics of it on my phone . Maybe I can get them...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Yes. I’m not sure I can post a picture but the connector is 2 wire. Looks like an orange/white & a brown/purple. It comes out of the harness at the very lower left corner of the vehicle and is about 2’ long from the point it exits the harness. I will see if I can get a pic of it but don’t hold...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Ok! I’m very limited in my ability to understand electrical schematics. However, here’s what I did. I unplugged the pigtail that plugs into the lift cylinder. On that harness I located the green/orange & green/white wires. With my meter hooked to one for the up/raise command, when I energize the...

Thank you for the support. I just got the call that the shop has the muffler work finished. Going up right now to get the car and will implement your suggestions when I return. I appreciate it.

    Auto liftgate troubles

Thank you for the reply. I have to confess that I am uninformed as to what some abbreviations in your post are referring to such as LTM & RKE. I do think though that I have tried the procedure you are referring to several times to no avail. The car is at the shop getting a muffler reattached...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Well today I installed the third row seats and plugged in every electrical connector . Still no automatic liftgate. I also checked all fuses related to liftgate . No blown fuses. I guess I will eventually get it over to the shop or the dealer but it's going on the back burner for a week or two...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Well. I already have most of the interior panels removed from the back doors all the way to the liftgate. I didn't want to reinstall them until I am certain everything is working. When rebuilding I never noticed anything unusual about any of the wiring and believe me when I say there is a ton of...

    Auto liftgate troubles

You can't hear anything coming from the actuator. The only sound is when the latch releases. I do have pics on my phone. I will try to see if I can figure out how to get a couple of them up here.

    Auto liftgate troubles

The lift actuator shock came today. It's an easy install. It didn't make any improvements. Still won't open or close under power. The latch is working but it won't open. Not sure what to do next. I guess it's not getting the electric signal. I don't have a schematic and not sure I could read it...

    Auto liftgate troubles

No, I didn't try to verify that power is going to it. It has 6 wires and I didn't try to find a schematic . Even if I would have I'm not sure I am competent enough to read it. Most cases I find I know just enough to get in trouble. Ha ha. The actuator cylinder is on the side that was hit in the...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Thanks for the extra footwork Peter. I think I will go ahead and replace the actuator shock on the drivers side. I can get it to my door just under $100. Hope that solves because at my age I don't have much hair left. Ha ha. I should have the part on and installed in one week and will update.

    Auto liftgate troubles

Peter, thanks for the follow up. If I remember correctly the fuse in the engine compartment is a 30 amp fuse. I switched it out with another like fuse and it didn't seem to make any difference. With that said I finally did find an actuator on a web site called partsmaven I believe. I also think...

    Auto liftgate troubles

Well I went and checked to see if resetting the lift height would affect it but it didn’t. That cylinder has 6 wires: red , green, blue , yellow, purple , and black I think. I will replace it if necessary but I hope I can verify first. Thanks for the feedback so far. When I push the...
