Thanks and so far you are right. Not sure why the shop took so long to get to that diagnosis. But finally they changed the t'sat and so far so good.
I guess it was just a very intermittent failure.
Wellthe shop said they checked it but that sounds like a lot better thing to try first than a possible intermittent fan clutch problem. I'll let you know.

loud roaring and temp spike
Any update or more info on this? I have a 2006 V8 with the same problem and the shop can't figure it out. (no radiator leak) Very intermittent roaring noise when I start from a dead stop and accompanying temp spike. I can shut it off and wait two minutes and all is...
