    Changing battery caused problems

Thanks for the feedback I don't think my $40 code reader is going to do anything like that. Like you said i may just need to drive it more. I have only driven 30 miles since changing the battery. Then I disconnected the battery and left the lights on for half an hour today. So I'm back to zero...

    Changing battery caused problems

Just when I think I have one problem fixed something else goes wrong. Yesterday I changed my battery as the old one was weak. It was still starting but turning over real slow and the voltage would drop so low it would make my two way radio shut off. Anyway before the battery change I was having...

Confused on front driveshafts cv or not

Its funny sometimes you can get parts so cheap that you wonder how they can rebuild them for so little and others are so ridiculously expensive no one would ever buy them. I pulled the cap off the scrap yard shaft and the grease looked like new I was going to wash it out and repack it. But...

Confused on front driveshafts cv or not

Get this I called the local ford dealer about a new or rebuilt drive shaft they quoted me over $900 Gulp! an aftermarket car part store $600 A local drive shaft builder said he could not get the cv joint but could get me a shaft from the states fo $400. A local scrap yard had a good used one for...

Confused on front driveshafts cv or not

I have a 4L EX with auto4wd. Developed a vibration last night on the way to work. Thought maybe it was a cv boot let go on the front axle. They where all O/K I felt the cv on the front drive shaft and it was hot. If the cv is gone does that mean I have to replace the driveshaft or can it be...

    Buck\jerk on slight acceleration

Ouch! guess i got lucky. If it cost $300 dollars in labour it must not be a very common problem.

    Warped air filter box

With the top and filter removed it is the front edge next to the grill. It was bowed out or toward the grill.

    Warped air filter box

Has anybody had a problem with there air filter box warping. Mine was warped on the front side, thus alowing the air filter to sag down. This caused a drivability problem see other post buck/jerk hesitation. The MAF senser had a piece of plant material in it causing a lean missfire. To fix it I...

    Buck\jerk on slight acceleration

Just an update. Running fine now. MAF getting dirty was from a warped air box. The front side was bowed out alowing the air filter to dip down, alowing unfiltered air in.

1998 SOHC 4.0 hesitates on freeway

Uefear So far so good but like I said in my other post it only happens under the right conditions. I will be more confident after a week or so of driving.

1998 SOHC 4.0 hesitates on freeway

Have you checked your MAF sensor? For details see my other post. Mine had some plant material on it.

    Buck\jerk on slight acceleration

I think I may have found the problem. As I have been leaning towards the MAF sensor being the problem I pulled the top off the air box and found that a chipmunk or mouse had put maple keys in the air box. There was not a hole in the filter so That was not the problem as ther was not enough to...

1998 SOHC 4.0 hesitates on freeway

Sounds like you are having the same problem as me. (see "buck/jerk" post). I too changed the plugs and wires and thought I had it solved only to have the problem come back the next day. Do you live in a cold climate like me? Mine only seems to act up when it is freezing cold and damp usually...

    front end noise, bushings?

I had the same problem last weekend. My driverside lower ball joint was bad. If it sqweeked when you turned the steering wheel back and forth it is likely the same problem. If it happens only when it goes up and down it may be the sway bar bushings.

    Buck\jerk on slight acceleration

No mine has not backfired. I think it is a lean A\F mixture causing it. If you are getting a backfire that would be unburned fuel in the exhaust too rich or ignition cutting out maybe?

    Buck\jerk on slight acceleration

I forgot to mention that I had checked for codes and got none. Let me know if the MAF change cures the problem. Good luck!

    Buck\jerk on slight acceleration

I have been browsing this forum for a few weeks and have found a lot of good info. There is a lot of smart members out there. Anyway the problem I am having is a buck and jerk type of symptom that happens only under certain conditions. The conditions are cold and damp weather always seems to be...
