    Only stumbles in gear

    My '96 2wd 4.0 starts and runs smoothly when cold but when warms up over 4-5 min. AND is in gear, stumbles. This is felt as an engine 'miss' and small forward movement stumble when under way.     Passenger Upper O2 Sensor

    My Haynes manual for the '96 Explorer says the metal of the exhaust pipe expands and contracts such that you may not be able to remove an O2 sensor unless you run the engine for a couple of min. first. It also warns not to burn yourself on the pipe.
