New here, just bought the wife a 02 explorer

Just got back from a test run after installing the control arm. ( it's 1:16 am lol) running in low range with the 28" tall 235's is pretty good. I might throw on all four 35's to see what it's like. If I do go to a lower gear it will be 4.86 minimum and probably 5.13. However, this is the wife's...

Back has 3" between the tire and top of fender. Front has lots of room all around when straight and when front of tire turned in. Even the tire-upper control arm clearance is good as you can see. The only clearance issue is when the back of the tire is turned in, it hits the back of the fender...

So, after looking at lifting the suspension and body and seeing how hard it would be, I found out how rusty Dora is. Screwdrivers find holes! Ok, next plan would be sticking 31's or 33's on it, whatever will fit. Then I thought, I have 35's on the donkey, same bolt pattern, let's try one of...

Thanks for the link, just got back from the junkyard. They've got 5 explorers and they all have 45 for an axle code except one that has D4. The d4 one is a 2005 I think, same control arm anyway. Like to get the diffs but don't "need" them right now. Also, I see some did come with a 3.08 gear...

Well, what a weekend. I took the donkey, buddy took his dodge and the wife took the girls and we went wheeling. Was called on the radio to come back, they broke Dora. The rear left control arm was rusted and it broke off at the bushing kicking the tire out at a 45deg angle. Jacked it up and used...

Well I repaired the front right brake line that blew last night, jacked up the rear and....the puddle on the ground is from the strut! So, took it for a test drive off road last night. Works really well but is hard to shift between auto/ 4x4 high/ 4x4 low. Pretty much have to put it in neutral...

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the door sticker and its unreadable. Looked at the tag on the rearend and its rusted so bad it's unreadable as well. I'm doing a front brake line right now, after that I'll jack up the ass and see if it's a locker and check the rear ratio too.

    Die hard ford guy intro....

Since starting driving the ford truck and ford tractor on the farm as a kid, been a die hard ford guy since. I drag race anything and everything ford (mustangs being rebuilt so currently racing a focus, lol) Off road with a 91 ranger and just picked up an 02 explorer for the wife to drive off...

Wife was complaining as I'm always at the dragstrip (she hates the noise) either by myself racing or with my kid. So, at her suggestion "maybe we can do something together like off road like your cousins". So I picked up a 91 ranger and started hacking and modding (35" tire, welded...
