Tough Decisom - Which do I chose?

When you're offroading and eventually do something silly and roll it, which vehicle is going to tick you off more. I would guess that if your wife drives the X, she's going to be angry when she goes to drive it and it's covered with mud, scratches, dings, and a tranny that's broken. Go for...

Poor Running 94 Help needed asap

$130 for plug wires??????!!!!!!! You gotta' be kidding! Autozone has Bosch for $30.00 for my 96 EB V6....

    Side Exhausts...

It's possible that the discoloration is due to the heat produced rather than the engine exhaust itself.

    Linkage/Ripoff?

If the truck was drivable after the gas station guy fixed the linkage with bubblegum and bailing wire, I would guess that your clutch itself was fine. Sounds like you just broke the linkage. Should be able to repair it yourself for next to nothing. If the clutch slipped, however, or if you...

    Really dumb lazy question

Will a sheet of plywood fit in my EB EX with the seats folded down???? I know I'm lazy, and I can't find my tape measure.....

    K & N air filters and some Q's

Believe it or not, they're just press in studs into the bottom of the box. they're tight, but they will come out with a little work. probably would help if you waited till it was a little warmer so that the plastic doesn't break.

    K & N air filters and some Q's

I have a K&N drop in, and love it. Pulled the intake cover completely off (it just has press in studs to remove), and then wrapped the edge of the K&N with about 3 layers of duct tape so that I could use the factory clamp to hold it on. It doesn't bounce around, and gives plenty of air...

Occasional rough idle after warm restart - any ideas?

Occasional rough idle after warm restart - any ideas?

haven't a clue, but I would assume so since it's the same motor as mine. It's located on the driver's side of the throttle body. attached with 2 bolts and an electrical connector.

My 4x4 Low range isn't working

OK, since you don't use it much, are you sure you're engaging it properly? Truck myst be in neutral and brake must be engaged before it will kick in. I know it sounds dumb, but I had the same kind of issue with my X till I checked the manual and tried again. Takes a second or 2 for it to...

HELP!! Won't Start!! Fast clicking sound

This has happened to me several times over the years with many vehicles. It's most likely your charging system as discussed above. Make sure your battery is good. Especially if it's cold out. Batteries are not as efficient in colder temps and can lose a lot of power. The fast clicking you...

    drilled airbox today

I have a 96 EB with a 4.0 and K&N. Is there any reason not to just remove the bottom half of the airbox and attach the K&n directly to the input side??? Seems that would be less destructive to the vehicle, and give the same ore better results, although I guess the air coming in would be...

    console computer question

I've asked this before in the general forum, but thought I'd give it a shot here - I can't seem to find anyone that can help. I have a 96 EB 4.0 with a center console computer (mileage, fuel left etc) The computer does all calculations perfectly, but for some reason, the mileage is...

Occasional rough idle after warm restart - any ideas?

I'd love to know the answer to this as well. My 96 EB does exactly the same thing. I'm off today to have the injectors cleaned and clean the MAF and throttle body. Any other thoughts out there??

    MAF (MAS) question

Hi folks, Is there any way to successfully clean your MAF without removing it from the engine. It's really cold here, and my tools are currently not available (divorce thing), wondering if a can of gumout (or equivalent) will do the job by spraying into the intake?? Thanks, Douglas

    Air Silencer Removal

Dumb question from an explorer newbie. Where is the air silencer on a 96' 6 cyl? I already have a K&N, but the tip of its cone fits into a rubber sleeve. Am I missing something? More stupidity....Where is the actual intake? I can see that it runs into the fender well, but I can't see...

    what's it mean when....

This may be even more stupid, but does this car have a distributor cap? If so, maybe there's H2O in there from the rain. That would cause this problem too... Easy way to check for spark: pull off a lead and hold it in your wet hand. Have someone crank the engine for you. If you have to...

    Speed sensor or control head??

Hi, I have a 96 EB explorer with the console on the floor showing mileage/fuel consumption etc. When the engine is started and I am sitting still, the system clicks off 10ths of miles... All other functions work properly. Calculations for mileage and fuel consuption are correct, but the...

    Questions, questions

I posted this in another thread, but thought I'd go ahead and start a thread... My 96 EB V6 just turned over 165000. Just bought it about 3 months ago at 160k. Seems to have been maintained VERY well. Only problems I can Identify so far are: 1) Probably need ball joints. 2) parking...

    Message center is bonkers!!

HI folks, new to the Explorer arena - 96 EB....Got a question about the message center. Mileage is all fouled up. When watching the elapsed mileage counter at a stop sign, the 10ths just click away like I'm going about 40. How does the system receive its speed signal? Does the real ODO...
