My 98 XLT 5.0 Finally Goes Under The Knife
I'm glad you like yours! I have looked at tons of reviews and I think I only seen 1 or 2 say anything bad about these tires. The one guy even did a offroad review from one of our local trail areas and said they work as well or better then the BFG AT. Snow is where they really shine I hear, we...- SWIGIN

My 98 XLT 5.0 Finally Goes Under The Knife
I just got back from the tire guy with my new 31x10.5-15LT Kumho AT51's. I'm an old school BFG AT guy but I just cant get over what they cost nowadays. I've been hearing a lot of good things about these AT51's so I decided to give them a try. I might wait till closer till fall to do my TT and...- SWIGIN

reverse but no forward gears
My buddy just got a F150 (same tranny as an EX) and it does the same thing. Turns out I believe it was the forward drum had damage so it was time for a rebuild or replace. He found a place online that sells a stage 1 4R70W which comes with all the upgraded parts and a Trannsgo shift kit for...- SWIGIN

That sucks bout the pics. I was trying to look back through your thread to find out what you did with your ABS but it's too hard without the pics. I was wondering if removing the ABS affected the speedometer at all since I've read that they share the same tone ring in the rear on our 98s?- SWIGIN

Oil pressure gauge
I think you answered your own question. Even just throwing an aftermarket gauge on temporarily to see what's going on for sure is needed now so you don't blow it up. Then remove the gauge cluster and remove the lens and lift the needle over the pin.- SWIGIN

Thinking about doing something with rear suspension above and beyond!
For $430ish I'd get custom leaf springs made up and maybe have change left over. I have a great spring shop near me and have dealt with them in the past making new crewcab dually leaf packs. They say that factory spring packs other then the main leaf is basically filler or low grade spring...- SWIGIN

Output shaft seal leaking into transfer case
You guys are something else. Turdles example happens a lot I'm sure. It then comes down to common sense on adding more if it seems low from tilting the wrong way. I don't think it really makes a deference in a T case if it's a little over filled or under filled as far as hurting anything...- SWIGIN

Output shaft seal leaking into transfer case
No, it would have to be a very extreme tilt to get that much extra fluid in a t case. My buddys was filled to the top because every time his tranny would slip from being low he'd just fill it to the full mark no questions ask. After a few times the T case was filled to the top and pukeing out...- SWIGIN

Output shaft seal leaking into transfer case
I was talking bout my experience not yours, how would I know if your vehicle was leaning. Of course if it is leaning any direction it affects what the dip stick says is full but why on gods earth would anyone try to fill a tranny with the vehicle leaning that much? The fact remains that if your...- SWIGIN

Output shaft seal leaking into transfer case
My buddy had a 94 F150 with a 5.0 and basically a 4r70W tranny (it was a AOD-EW) but it would fill the T case as fast as you filled the tranny. I guess time will tell how bad your seal is but either way it needs fixed.- SWIGIN

BALL JOINT INSTALLATION - HOW?
I sliced about 1/4'' - 3/8'' off the height of the medium collar. The larger piece still works fine over the stud side of the ball joint and the thin piece is enough for the other end since it only sticks out of the lower control arm about a quarter inch or so. When that collar is needs to be...- SWIGIN

Weird overheat
Looks more like timing cover to me but lets say it is not. When you get all the water pump bolts out ( some of those hold on the timing cover) the old dry rotten timing cover gasket will typically get disturbed nd leak when you get the pump back on. I went ahead and bought a new timing cover...- SWIGIN

'98 5.0 V8 Alternator Replacement Gone Bad
For the record, you did not have to remove the radiator hose to replace the alternator. It simple flexes a little and the Alt will slide out. The belt is like any other, max out the tensioner and slip the belt under the easiest pulley to get to.- SWIGIN

No More Ticking !
Not too much wisdom there to be had, there are no bolts in coolant passages when dealing with the lower. The only ones I ever had a problem with are the 4 at each corner but I always install studs at each corner like other Ford V8s had that way you can hang your gaskets without having them...- SWIGIN

No More Ticking !
I have had lifters fail already as low as 50,000 miles. No amount of cleaning would have helped. I'd just bite the bullet and replace them, they are not expensive but you do need to pull the lower intake.- SWIGIN

15% sounds like a lot, in my stand alone tranny controller instructions I thought it said to go no more then 10% but I could be wrong. In reality we are talking about much more than a simple shift kit. These kits that include hardware are more of a retune kit then a shift kit. I just wanted to be sure you weren't one of the '' ZOMYGOD THE JMOD IS THE BEST AND ONLy'' guys.- SWIGIN

IMO the J mod is a band aid and only the bare minimum. The Trannsgo shift kit replaces several valves in the valve body along with other hardware. I know the kit isn't free but the J mod is just a tease of what's possible.- SWIGIN

5.0 Explorer Timing - SCT Spark TIming Percentage - some interesting observations
My tranny guy tells me to run it as cool as I can. Mine stay below 160 degrees in the hot summer days beating the hell out of it. On cool fall or spring days the needle might not move off the 100 degree pin. If you are going to mess with tranny tuning I highly recommend mounting a dedicated...- SWIGIN

5.0 Explorer Timing - SCT Spark TIming Percentage - some interesting observations
I have a stand alone tranny controller in my 94 Mustang GT for years now and I can tell you that you can play with the line pressure somewhat with no problems. If you increase it too much you will make a lot of unneeded heat. I recommend a tranny temp gauge if you don't have one already...- SWIGIN

That's a good one and I feel your pain. I just got my Mustang running after 2 years of on and off again trying. I have real hate in my soul for AWD and VC.
