95 w/4.0 OHV - low idle, low power, rough running, gas smell
You probably had a backfire during the start which blew the sensor out. Hopefully that's all the damage it did, minimally it could have popped other vac line(s) off, or blew the intake manifold gasket. I am certain that having that sensor out can have caused poor running and a check engine...- J_C

Running Like Garbage
^ That could be why it ran better for a day, till the computer relearned and leaned the fuel mix. Some people automatically disconnect the battery any time they work on a vehicle. I don't, well I do it more often on vehicles with electric fans.- J_C

Vents not blowing hard
What is every check one can do? I mean you may have done this already but did you pull the blower motor (squirrel cage) wheel out and check it for gunk buildup, and attempt to clean the air passage into it in case there's leaves/insect nests/etc partially blocking it? You might also want to...- J_C

2000 Explorer rear window defroster
^ Amazon reviews for that don't look very promising with near half the reviewers giving it the lowest 1 star rating possible on Amazon. How do the glass repair shops reattach it? I wonder if it would take and last if the wire were pre-tinned then the window cleaned and coated in plumber's...- J_C

High mount brake light
I suspect that you meant that the other way around, that using same color LEDs as the lens gives optimal brightness as mentioned here: '97 third brake light conversion to LED However a little bit brighter white LEDs can offset that fine. Utmost efficiency isn't important for this application...- J_C

Adding DRL to 2000 XLS Explorer?
^ I don't want to write a novel in dispute, but I completely disagree. PWM is a nice idea on paper or for throwaway products but not something meant to last outdoors for the 20 years we're now facing. It is cheaper to design a linear circuit within longer lasting thermal limits than PWM when...- J_C

Adding DRL to 2000 XLS Explorer?
It wouldn't be hard to rig something up... take any circuit lead live with ignition on to activate a relay, take 12V from battery through a fuse, relay and then split to ~ 4 series diodes per bulb to drop ~ 3V to low or high beam, checking brightness with 3 in series, then 4, then 5. Given...- J_C

Towing and gas mileage
Yes probably a little. With the trailer you might have another couple hundred lbs trailer weight (or more), drag from trailer tires and worse aerodynamics. I'd still use the trailer if you have too much rear end sag loaded, guessing the loss is only a MPG or two.- J_C

1999 Ford Explorer starting problems
I do recall that once (for a different vehicle) I bought a replacement water pump, put it on and the engine bogged down to a nearly stalling state which it had never done before, yet it seemed to turn okay by hand both before and after I'd put it on the engine, and after I'd pulled it back off...- J_C

1999 Ford Explorer starting problems
Something I never thought about is does the A/C compressor clutch engage during starting if A/C is turned on (at the dash)? I'm asking anyone, not a diagnostic question for Royalflash. I'm probably barking up the wrong tree but if it does, that could explain it turning freely by hand but then...- J_C

Fuel pump to complete engine failure question
Yeah I also would want a different mechanic, or DIY, be ready the next time it's running rough and while it is, hook up an OBDII scan tool capable of showing live data, check the fuel rail pressure, and check for spark on all cylinders. You might also pull the spark plugs and examine them and...- J_C

AWD and tire sizes
While I also doubt it's the tire, there might be a tire shop near you that will shave the tire down to a matching diameter for ~ $20. Vibration slowing down seems like it could be a warped (ambiguous term, as likely means raised hard spots on) rotor to me. If there's only one raised area it'll...- J_C

97 EB 'Check ALL Lamps' after LED switch
^ Yeah my '98 3rd brake light is the only thing I would have been tempted to change to LED... except that Ford already did it for my model year. I did think about adding a cargo bay light but not as small a change as swapping an LED retrofit bulb into the existing housing, which is often no...- J_C

Dirt particles
You might also take your blower motor resistor or transistor module (same part location, which it is depends on whether manual or auto climate control) off the firewall to make sure there's no built up leaves/debris on it because they are prone to heat failure and need the airflow in that duct...- J_C

Towing with a 99 mountaineer?
But is that the vehicle tow rating or just the lower, bumper-mounted-ball tow rating? Not that I'd want to put 3500lbs on a bumper, but it seems like my bumper is rated 3500lb and 350lb tongue weight.- J_C

While I too would guess leaves in the blower duct, something doesn't add up. How can it accumulate while the vehicle is off and clean when you last left it? Is it possible someone has access to it and is playing a joke on you by stuffing the vents with crushed leaves?- J_C

...and supply the speed sensor inputs if you want the auto-4WD to function instead of being manual only. PCM isssue
^ Asegu already has another topic where it was mentioned that '01 sports built after 7/24/00 have the newer PATS with the starter interrupt feature. Granted it could be a pre-7/24/00 sport with a 3rd party starter disabler, but then it shouldn't cause the PATS light to flash trying to start it.- J_C

Don't forget to take that black plastic cap off and rinse out the felt pads and the port going into it. Mine had two felt pads, I don't know if that's normal or not. Supposedly some don't even have that little capped port but I figure that if it's there, it must serve some purpose.- J_C

Fuel Injector tip spins but is intact.
If it's below the o-ring and the center nozzle seems to be held on firmly then I'd suspect it will work, aside from wondering why you have an old one that was possibly rotated out of service for some reason? Idle issue, with no codes. Help please
When my IAC got dirty it would cause the engine RPM to drop when the A/C compressor kicked on. It did not set any OBDII codes at that point. It looks like you already have a solution that will work, but keep in mind that if you have a GEM at all, there's probably a way to do it without a separate timer module, assuming your relay box has contacts for the defroster relay and you install one. That is, I am assuming the same GEM is...- J_C

I think it is fair to state that he isn't a very good guesser. It's not water flowing past the thermostat. Whether he is correct that it isn't a pulley... I would not rule it out yet. It might help if you made a video and moved the camera around so you can get an idea of sound intensity at...- J_C

97 EB 'Check ALL Lamps' after LED switch
You don't necessarily need to add resistors to all the bulbs. It's often more intrusive to the wiring, costs more for custom made modules, and wastes power. 97 EB 'Check ALL Lamps' after LED switch
Factory LED lighting designs are fairly reliable but aftermarket chinese junk is often less reliable than the incan bulb it replaced, due to trying to produce more light with fewer LEDs to keep cost low, and the limited amount of space to heatsink in some bulb form factors. Regardless, one...- J_C
