    1996 4.0 Contaminated Coolant

Yeah I'm wondering if you meant $400 for a shop to do radiator and hoses? Check engine light on? Any OBDII trouble codes set? V6 or V8? Have you checked the oil? If it is contaminated it can wear down the engine, or if you're getting a misfire or burning coolant it can foul (ruin) the...

    2010 Mountaineer Noise - Transmission?

I think I hear whales on your recording. ;) But not much else that I can discern from what it usually sounds like or ambient noise. If it's never had a tranny fluid change then I'd go ahead. If it has had one, how long ago? Because you feel it in the steering wheel I would sooner wonder if...

    Another Orange Wrench Problem...

^ I posted a suggestion and instead you fixated on off-topic. Any further investigation into whether cyl 1 is firing? It seems like we need more input from you to get anywhere on this. Otherwise I'd recommend renting a vehicle for the road trip. If it is running badly there is possible risk...

^ Of course I sent you a PM instead of continuing to derail the topic... but then you did anyway. lol, talk about turning a mole hill into a mountain! Then again it is Your Topic and you should do whatever you want with it.

    Help,Idling Rough

I too suspect a vac leak, maybe just a vac line that wasn't reconnected or popped off and you didn't realize it. Considering head gaskets were done, I'd do a compression test if no vac leak found, though you should be able to hook up a scan tool showing live data to see if your fuel trims are...

    Another Orange Wrench Problem...

lol, guys the sig color issue is relatively unimportant. If someone posts something in a topic that's off-topic and minor then I just ignore it. It's just that color is a basic element of good web design and makes it easier on everyone to have things be their normal color.

    Another Orange Wrench Problem...

So that's a reason to post a sig in red? Red is to get attention, possibly you deserve extra for being elite. Do sigs deserve more attention than post content? Or should everyone post everything in red? I don't think so! Black is the default font color for a reason. Another good reason is...

Do we have SS fuel lines?

Anybody tried the Dorman metal-to-nylon connectors with their nylon tubing?
  9. J

    Another Orange Wrench Problem...

I would give cyl 1 a look, pull spark plug and examine, do a compression test, and I would change your sig color to black instead of red because red is normally associated with an emergency and a sig isn't one.

    Another Orange Wrench Problem...

The message about win7 might just be the trialware and malware apps. I wouldn't even put that little white/blue CD in a computer at all. There are various sources for a driver for it then use Forscan. I found a couple references with a quick google search, one of which lists WinXP, 7, 8, and...

    where to start to start

Get a fuel filter. Disconnect the line from it on the tank side. Turn the ignition key. If you're getting fuel just replace the filter. If you're not, check the fuel relay, measure for voltage on its input (socket pin) and output (wire to fuel cutoff switch) and/or swap another of the same...

99 5.0 Misfires when warmed up

Is it random now? Looked like cyl. 1. If a grounding problem then I would suspect all would get random misfires, except I still don't agree that the coil pack needs any ground through the bracket. Its electrical function is handled by the wiring. It has 3 pins (on each of the two, twin coil...

Radio not working after battery change.

The several thousands of dollars purchase and repair costs increase can buy a lot of radios. Heck, even the insurance difference can buy a lot of radios. Now he can get one that does bluetooth, satellite, MP3, and a dozen other things to distract while driving. ;)

Able to Use Factory Sub Wiring?

^ Yeah but still along the door sills... wire isn't directional.

Able to Use Factory Sub Wiring?

Yeah where else would you put it? That's probably where the original wiring was anyway.

Radio not working after battery change.

There's nothing to reset on the fuel pump itself, is just a *dumb* motor. I suspect the relay is just flaky and ought to be replaced, or maybe the contacts in the relay socket are corroded and the act of pulling and putting it back, cleans them off a little. Things like this though, are just...

Radio not working after battery change.

I can't think of any reason why the radio should draw more power in an otherwise off state by just having a cassette in, but it might be possible that it kept supplying power to the eject motor if you tried to remove it but it never finished its travel. I would have thought that more a...

Radio not working after battery change.

First guess would be that hooking the battery up backwards just fried the radio. If that's all the damage that was caused then you are lucky. On the other hand, the radio has a constant power feed to keep time and station memory. If the radio itself failed first, some types of radio faults can...

    where to start to start

You could have several problems, two of which could be simple things like battery shot or out of fuel. When you hear the fuel pump run, is fuel escaping the fuel line somewhere, or possibly a rare condition like complete fuel filter blockage? How long had it sat parked? How long had it sat...

    Checking thermostat on my Explorer

I guess I'm too trusting, when I buy a new one I just assume it's going to work. I have thrown an old one in a pot to see and confirm that it did work, then put a new one in anyway. I am doubtful that (non-pressurized so a max temp of about) 212F boiling water would damage a t-stat. That's...

    Converting to Led head lights

No it doesn't. Every day I see blinding lights and don't flash people because there is nothing they can do at that moment because their lights are still on low beam. It is obvious the problem is instead a headlight mod because of the malformed beam pattern and bluer tinted light. It makes...

    Converting to Led head lights

^ No Batx00, they are not DOT approved. [rant removed] That's a false claim on their part. DOT sets a standard and a light kit could be DOT compliant as implemented on a specific vehicle, but that comes down to the integrity (or lack thereof) of the seller, or manufacturer or distributor in...

    Converting to Led head lights

Batx00, that you do not get flashed is not proof of anything. I get blinded often by people who do that and I don't flash them because it's obvious they're not on their high beams but rather have altered their headlights, so for the time being there was nothing they could do except turn their...

    Converting to Led head lights

Don't. Stock incandescent housings don't focus or aim the beam properly. You need a matched set of LED bulb with a housing/reflector engineered to work with it.

'97.5 Explorer - Fuel Meter Stays Up

^ I was thinking similar but if the relay is on a key on power source, once the key is shut off, where is the power coming from to go through the resistor to move the gauge? Due to that I was wondering if it would be necessary to flip a switch instead, before vehicle is turned off to move the...

'97.5 Explorer - Fuel Meter Stays Up

Did they get in through the gas cap, picking or breaking it? Just wondering if there's any chance the sender was just sticking so it registered higher than actual then became unstuck. On mine I had occasion to sipon fuel out by disconnecting the filler tube at the tank, just taking the hose...

Thanks for the lead on the ATSG manual. http://www.fordexplorerclub.ru/Alex/Transmission/5R55E.pdf I also found a couple of parts catalog pages. Where did you get your parts? https://www.transtar1.com/download.ashx?file=~/TranstarIndustries/media/Transtar1/catalogs/transtar/automatic...

What is that on fuel pump for 95 explorer

I was wondering whether the security system is going to notice it missing. Could be solid state transistor switching or a relay, sealed in resin to protect it from moisture. If it is jumpered out of the circuit then I would use high quality heat shrink tubing with a glue lining to help seal...

99 5.0 Misfires when warmed up

One thing at a time. You're only hurting your progress and making the topic unfollowable by going back and forth like this. Do the wires. `100% finish that and confirm all deliver spark. Nothing more. Completely rule out each subsystem one at a time.

What is that on fuel pump for 95 explorer

Is there a Ford part # on it? Can you non-destructively get the box open? How did you apply 12V to the motor, was it on the red wire? When the pump is supposed to be running, does the vehicle put 12V on the connector contact corresponding to the orange wire? IF both of these things are true...

What is that on fuel pump for 95 explorer

^ Interesting. Do you know if it can be rewired without it or if this will cause an error code? However, if I had gone to the trouble to pull the tank and sending unit, I would go ahead and replace the sender assembly, including a new pump, while it was out.
