Haha! I'd almost take you up on that. It's pretty far south in San Diego. I'm coming to San Diego next Friday to visit my son in the Navy.

Found a 1999 Engine in San Diego with 115k on it. Was able to buy it for $225. Happy about that. Have to go pick it up next week.

Engine is a bummer, but we will get it fixed. Think I have a nice 99 engine lined up. I'll know tomorrow. When I was under it trying to see if I could save the current engine. All the rest of the work that was done looks great. And the interior is pretty nice, and she has kept it clean. So I...

Thanks for the advice for using the newer engine. I forgot that they used the 5.0 thru 2001.

Reman is out of the budget. Looks like I can get a good used motor for 400-600. Gonna have to go with that. As well it definitely has the external EGR.

Hi everyone. I'd like some input from anyone who can contribute. I'm searching for a used 5.0 engine for the EX. The build date is 08/97. When I go on Car-part.com They have 3 choices. "thru 1/22/98", "from 8/10/98", and "1/23/98 thru 8/9/98". Now the obvious answer is to go with "Thru 1/22/98"...

The V band clamps are a great idea. Both of my sons have Tbirds one is 1995 the other 1997. We put headers in both cars. Had the flanges cut off and V bands welded on. Makes things so much simpler and cleaner.

I have a 460 I need to assemble for my 1978 Country Squire wagon. I had the machine work for that done in 2013. Bored .030 over. Turned crank .010/.010, new pistons, recon the rods, arp rod bolts, install cam bearings and freeze plugs. That was all about $1000.

My oldest son just sent an 85 5.0 block in for machining. Bored cylinders .030 over, hot tank. Deck the head surface. Think that was all about 600-700. Took 2 weeks. My younger son did a 4.6 Ford last summer, same shop had the block and heads 7 weeks. But the 5.0 is getting AFR heads and a...

I cleaned the pickup tube. New pump, new gasket. Job number one is to get her back on the road. So I plan on picking a used engine to put in. I’d love to rebuild if. But i don’tthink the schedule will allow that.

Got everything back together today. Things looked good at first. Then the oil pressure headed down. Still runs good. But the oil pressure facts tell a bad story. I installed external temp and oil pressure gauges. Engine temp is good. Oil pressure isn't. So I will plan on grabbing a used engine...

So I just realized that I replaced the thermostat housing with a new one in the beginning. It already has a plug I can remove for the temp sensor. A simple win!

Didn't cross the finish line today. Spent much of the day wrestling with the rack and pinion. When I replaced it in 2021, I had the entire upper intake off, the HVAC box was out of the engine bay at the time so I was able to jack the engine sky high. Not the same when most everything is still in...

I went ahead and used a Melling pump shaft. It's basically stock. I didn't think to get an ARP one. I got the pan back on yesterday. At this point if the bearing replacement fails the pump shaft won't be the weak link.

That is a good point. I replaced that thing too just few months ago. But as we all know new parts fail. Definitely worth inspecting.

Yeah, it is hard to say what has really gone on. Guess we will know something when I start it back up. Could be great, or have a crapload of problems. Then we will know.

Believe it or not it was a made in the USA Melling pump. And the new pump is also a Melling. My guess is that the relief spring failed in some manner. I've taken many pictures. I'll post up things when I'm all done.

Well I installed a new pump as well. But when you get excessive clearance between bearings and the crank any engine will lose oil pressure. So I expect better pressure readings when I'm done. Time will tell.

Well I replaced the pump when I started this project. But you know how new parts go. So It could have been the cause. I took an oil pressure reading with my external guage. Pressure was between 20-25 cold. And wouldn't go higher when I revved up the engine. Not good. A few weeks ago the oil...

The bearings were in bad shape. However they were all pretty much the same thickness. I measured everything with the calipers. The crank wasn't horrible, but not perfect. But nowhere was the crank ground on from a complete bearing failure. We will see how it goes.

I got all the bearings in today. Still have to do all the rest of the things that had to be undone to get to the oil pan. I did the valve seals when I started the project. But we will see what happens when I start it back up. I found a junkyard not too far from me that has a good running engine...

Well considering how much has been done to the car in less than 2 years We aren't going to cut and run. I'm going to roll new main and rod bearings into it and see how it does. Then go find a used engine I can drop in. There rest of it is doing really well.

Question for the group. Anyone had their oil pressure gauge freak out? Then I turned off the car and the needle went backwards and rested on...

The tires are made in Canada. Discount tire installed them, so I'll guess 32-34psi. My daughter just came by but I didn't have a pressure guage handy. I asked her about road noise. And I don't think she knows what I mean. I'll have to drive it myself later on.

The thing about the Jmod is that it isn't like a shift kit where it breaks your back all the time. The lag time between the shifts is reduced. if you are just driving around it's almost unnoticable. If you put your foot into it, then the shifts match you. If you read the entire 24 page article...
