2016 Ford Explorer Sport TPMS Part#
2017 Explorers do NOT need the TPMS training device. I bought one through the dealer after they confirmed I needed one while I got my winters installed. I put my summers back on this weekend on my own, and I didn't have to retrain. The computer remembers both sets. I also made sure it wasn't...- kmarnes

Oil Change interval
Yep, just playing it safe. I think the only time I'd actually run into a problem is if my engine were to blow and I missed an oil change by 3-4 months. $200/year for two oil changes isn't a big deal for keeping my peace of mind. But yeah, if this was used and I had no warranty, I'd probably...- kmarnes

Major drop in fuel economy recently
My fuel economy tanked the moment I purchased something called the 3.5L Ecoboost engine in the Sport. I have consistently achieved 18L/100km since day 1 (8 months now) and I've tried 91 octane premium without ethanol -- and mileage never budged. Now I just use ethanol spiked 87 regular and I...- kmarnes

Frustration with turn signal lever
For me, it wasn't a big deal to get used to it again. I use it all the time for lane changes. My last car didn't have this and I didn't miss it, but I've had cars before that which had it and I adapted. I'm not phased either way, but do prefer it because it's one less thing you need to do and...- kmarnes

Anyone know when 2018 Ford Explorer will be released?
I actually don't see that happening for good reason. I watched a video on Ford's approach to this tech, and I think it's the right way to go. Automatic braking means you need to reliably get rid of all false positives, and I've heard some crazy stories about Audi/Volvo doing false positive hard...- kmarnes

2017 Platnium WITHOUT a wood trimmed steering wheel
I also wanted the Platinum, at first. But hated the wood trim too much and the pleated leather look inside. I ended up getting a Sport, and you really only lose a couple options (rain sensing wipers, lane departure, and massaging seats which aren't very good quality). Probably a few other things...- kmarnes

16/17 poor choices of options/packages
I also experienced tradeoffs before I bought the sport. I liked the Platinum instrument cluster better, the outside chrome accents, but preferred the interior "carbon" trim of the sport with the red accent stitching. Hated the pleated stitching on the Platinum and the wood grain. For me that was...- kmarnes

Thinkware F750 front & rear dashcam hardwire install (Ford Explorer 2011-2017)
Nice. It's a matter of time before permanent dashcams are options on new cars. Can't believe it isn't already here in 2017.- kmarnes

2017 Dash Cam - Hello, I am a new member
Hey nice that someone linked my DIY video (post #3). I've had the Thinkware F770 dual in for months, it's great. My old F750 went into my wife's car, so we're covered every which way. Happy to help out with any questions you have. Nobody stops these days unless it's a serious accident, and it...- kmarnes

Oil Change interval
I just had my first oil service at 7500km (8 months)... Was supposed to be 8k or Feb, so I guess I split the difference. Basically it's oil changes twice a year or every 8k km (5k miles), whatever happens first. And because it's a new car and I have an extended warranty, I need to respect the...- kmarnes

2016 - 2017 crossbars weight restrictions
That one will work fine. They clamp on the cross bars. But your car will be about 7'4", which will make underground parking a challenge in most places.- kmarnes

2016 - 2017 crossbars weight restrictions
No, not me. The 2017 roof rails don't have gaps on the sides. Apparently some of the older roof racks would connect this way. Pretty much all the newer Thule/Yakima racks have universal clamps that attack to the cross bar. The moonroof doesn't interfere with them at all. But the weight limit is...- kmarnes

2016 Ford Explorer Sport TPMS Part#
Yes it does. I put these in my 18" winters. I can't imagine TMPS not working in any sized tire (the innards of the valve stem which is the same size for all tires). Also yes on the trainer. I bought mine from the dealer, but haven't used it yet -- will try when I switch it out in the spring.- kmarnes

Got into a rear collision
I don't really see this particular accident being a worthy contender for diminished value. That's usually what happens when a car takes a big impact that costs over $10k to fix, like a good t-bone. I recently lost a mirror fight with a Ford F-150. I underestimated his extended trailer mirrors...- kmarnes

What did you pay for your Explorer?
I'd recommend the 2017 over the 2016, just for the Sync3 feature and less depreciation. Other than that, they are nearly identical. I paid $52k Canadian for my Sport before taxes during Ford Employee pricing. Saved about $6k off MSRP (roughly 10-11% off MSRP) which included a $1000 Costco rebate...- kmarnes

Holy Raptor!
Can configure them now. Last fall when I bought the Explorer Sport, I knew the Raptors were incoming and I briefly considered a luxury trim F150. But couldn't get past the wood panels inside, so Explorer Sport was my only option. But now that the Raptors are out, I figured I'd see how expensive...- kmarnes

Got into a rear collision
I agree with Napalm. It sounds like the OP has some really sketchy insurance, evidenced by his interactions with his agent. There's something really fishy about your agent telling you not to call your own insurance company. There are some really nasty and cheap car insurance options out there...- kmarnes

2017 Explorer Sport: what I love, and not so much
Yeah, that's what I checked this morning. It was set to "Auto" and I never changed it. Remote start doesn't turn on all the features I've been talking about even in -5C weather. That's why I'm asking whether there might be another setting somewhere else?- kmarnes

2017 Explorer Sport: what I love, and not so much
Yeah, well I always keep the heated steering wheel, and heated seat on -- constantly, unless I'm on a long drive. They definitely don't engage until I get inside the car and take over from remote start. Also the heated mirrors definitely don't go on either until I take over as well -- as the...- kmarnes

2017 Explorer Sport: what I love, and not so much
I checked my settings this morning and I'm able to set it to "auto" or "last". And auto doesn't do everything I would expect. I want my car to pre-heat the seats, steering wheel, engage the mirror defrosters (during the long freezing weather we had the past few weeks). But it won't do any of...- kmarnes

Got into a rear collision
It's weird that your rates could go up from being in a non-fault accident. I know the US has some crazy cheap policies, but none of the mainstream places would do this. If you get rear ended a red light, how can it be your fault at all? And yeah, an estimate doesn't mean there is further...- kmarnes

My 2017 Sport has 4500km on it now. I've been hovering at 18.5L/100km since day one. Almost all Vancouver city driving. 2017 Explorer Sport: what I love, and not so much
I've had double honk happen with the car off. It just means someone else had a door open and when it double honks, that particular door is not locked due to prematurely locking the car up. But it's weird and inconsistent. The only time I find double honk annoying is when I start the car and go...- kmarnes

mud flaps/ slash guards
Hmmmm, thanks. I took a closer look today, and there's definitely something weird because the tires don't really have any line of sight to the back of the car, yet it gets absolutely covered. mud flaps/ slash guards
Hi, I have a question about the mud flaps on a 2017 Explorer. I've had my car for 4 months now and it's great, but I find that virtually every time I have to back up, I need to use the rear windshield wiper to force a clean in order to see. Do mudflaps mitigate the need to clean before...- kmarnes

I've got smoked quartz, which is a metallic two coat option, and it's sort of half way between magnetic gray and black. I provided a link to where I bought them on my prior post. For the winters I got the 18 x 8 5/108, 5/114.3 40 mm. 72.62 ones. The 20" one's appear to be sold out.- kmarnes

Car sickness in my 2016 ford explorer platinum (everyone except driver)
Maybe you are a crazy driver then, with a new 365 hp engine? :) Some people have complained about flat spots on the tires causing weird vibration. But doesn't sound like your problem. Congratulations! I'm sure you'll love it! I ordered Touren TR-9 wheels as downsized 18s, for my dedicated winters. But I don't know if those are available in the US. Slight roll when putting in Park...
This is a big 5000 pound car. My driveway is on an incline and I use the parking brake. I never use it when I park on level ground. It does seem to roll back a little more than I'm accustomed to with smaller cars, and it's enough that I want to use the parking brake to prevent undue strain on...- kmarnes

Explorer Sport Black Red
You also like white gold and police hubcaps. Basically, to each their own. I just think someone just spent a lot of money to make an Explorer look really unique, but in a tacky way. High quality work though. I also saw someone spend an insane amount of money doing a custom order on a Q7...- kmarnes
