Bought Daughter a 2010 Ranger, She Paid it Off, Blew Engine, I Replaced Engine.......
If it was me, I'd document everything extremely well and put the dealer out on blast, internet and the news. The dealer knew exactly what it needed and increased the profit margin by pushing it off to the extended warranty to pay for.- Josh P

Bought Daughter a 2010 Ranger, She Paid it Off, Blew Engine, I Replaced Engine.......
Autonation is the absolute worst for this. They failed to grease the front drive shaft on a Dodge Ram 1500 during an oil change service that included grease too and Mopar tried to void the warranty on the truck. Lawyers had a field day going after both of them. What I learned from it is, I'll be...- Josh P

M50dr1 4x4
Yes, it needs to be a 4.0 transmission. 2001 and newer will be the M5OD-R1HD. The starter needs to be from a manual transmission. It could be from a ranger, explorer or a 2005-10 mustang. If I remember, the van is a 93 so make sure to get a 6 bolt flywheel. The slave cylinder I used was from a...- Josh P

A 94 Explorer that caught my eye
The place has been there over 40 years. John met Lorin sometime back in the 70s. They both tell me stories about each other. There's a state park in Atascadero named after Lorin's relatives.- Josh P

A 94 Explorer that caught my eye
Today, I get a call from Lorin, the one who's yard this explorer is sitting in. He offered it to me if I'd take a load of recycling material, 20 bins from his yard to Phoenix. I'm seriously thinking about it cause my friend John, the one who broke his hip last October is walking again and will...- Josh P

Getting rid of old Ex
I'd suggest a membership on the forum and sell it to the guy who posted above me. A hotshot truck driver, someone who has a flatbed trailer with a pickup truck would have a reasonable rate to take anywhere in the country.- Josh P

Bang, no reverse!
The automatic in my Aerostar started losing gears when I was working 50 miles from home. I managed to get the car home and fixed the transmission by throwing it away. I swapped a manual in and never have had any issues. The job I had at the time required me to drive 800+ miles a week.- Josh P

Polishing pads for an angle grinder and one that looks like a hair net that goes over a rubber pad underneath. I do the recessed areas by hand. Those lug nut covers will mess up a car door. They're plastic but that plastic will win vs a new car. Someone in California was driving on the shoulder... -

Parts gather for a manual swap, run what you got till it dies, save the manual transmission parts for another explorer in the future. We can help with the parts list.- Josh P

Bang, no reverse!
It's cheaper to manual swap. I did this with my 91 aerostar van. The benefit is better mpg and a transmission that will last longer than the automatic.- Josh P

Did I get a dud transmission?
If the thread type and size are known, it maybe available at a hardware store. This is something I do not know off the top of my head. Inspect the threads inside the transmission case.- Josh P

Did I get a dud transmission?
A junk yard will be your best bet. It's common for all the little things to be stripped off the transmission. What I learned the hard way is, it is better to turn the item in for the core credit after the job is complete. It's easy to miss or overlook, small but critical items.- Josh P

If you're going to open it up and replace parts, it's all or nothing as in if you don't do it all you'll end up where your at now and nothing left in your wallet. If it was me, I'd bribe those family members that can remove the transmission and get the used one that has 41k miles on it. Rebuild...- Josh P

If the GVWR is under 14K and it's older than the emissions testing year, not sure off the top of my head, think 1996 you could register in your name without needing to comply with the newer motor- Josh P
