    Struck by Lightning

2 safest places to be with lightening around is your car or an airplane. rubber tires - or statically grounding. also as FYI - might be a good thought to check the grounding rod and connection in your house. in fact if your house is big-enough - consider having more than one.

    Should Ford Cover This?

why I said it varies. when a tree fell on my car - at my GF's house years ago. her home owners insurance covered the car. not my car insurance - not her car insurance. I'm in MS now, was in AL when that happened. I suspect it might also vary by state. either way - one claim should...

    Should Ford Cover This?

Indeed - yet as another layer of CYA - most motor oils of quality will state on the back what manufacturer spec their products meet. notice all the ones that tout DEXOS compatible now. Notice the manual also quotes off the Ford _____________ spec number. you should use an oil that states...

    Should Ford Cover This?

specifically it's not the work you do your self. It's more the brand of part you buy. Magnuson-moss is mostly about you using replacement parts not sourced through a dealer or manufacturer. Ie you changed your oil and didn't use motorcraft oil and motorcraft filter therefore we void your...

    Should Ford Cover This?

while on the surface I agree with you, I've seen this contested a few times. first thing depends a good bit on your state laws. and the other bit on how much you know or work on yourself. some some dealers don't quibble. but for reasons I don't understand there are some that will pretty...

    Should Ford Cover This?

the nest and other crap was up by the brake reservoir - do you know that it didn't get contaminated? if nothing else check the cap and seals to make sure they car solid then. also brake fluid should be replaced regularly anyway as is 2-4 years depending on type so might as well start off fresh.

    Should Ford Cover This?

I thought that too but I figured it had to come from under the hood, fender wells etc. not inside the car. but stranger things have happened. Hell it might not even be from that car - it could have been brought over.

Also just noticed you're in Oxford MS. I'm not far from there, who is your dealer. I bought my fords from Hallmark Batesville. They've treated me fairly well so far but I've not really used their service department. knock on wood I won't ever have to. Good Luck though.

    Should Ford Cover This?

Damn I read that all wrong. missed the red circle from the first pic too. UHm no ford doesn't have to honor warranty if there is proof of prior damange. IE if those squirrels chewed a wire harness - and 3 weeks later your engine decided that it's in the wrong RPM range or decides to shift...

    SecuriCode Keyless Question?

Shelton is all over it. TL:DR version you could - the system times out after so many wrong attempts - it would take a theif significant time, or he'd be very luck. Also IIRC - when it times out the horn beeps. so it will get attention when tested

dried up grease or no grease would be my first though. and probably only one was bad - but instead of checking - replaced them both.

that "cotton" pad looks to be either from the under the hood liner. or atleast that's the first thing I thought of. the box you took a pic of is what exactly? looks like the bottom of the air filter box but I wanted to ask to be certain. how'd a cup get in there? that's impressive...

2016 Sport or XLT , Lease advice .

dude - drive the thing man - you're paying for it. what's your other car(s) I have 132K on my 09 G8, and we have 10K+ on our Exploder. (I can't help it)

2016 Sport or XLT , Lease advice .

and as I've said your in cold canada where most of the time your ambient intake air is under 50 F. right? therefore your car probably doesn't adjust any timing or fuel quantity for potential predetonation. but even without those potential wrinkles to cost estimate. doesn't the sport...

2016 Sport or XLT , Lease advice .

doesn't the sport get less mpg. and that's on 91 octane. as far as I know it will get even less mpg on 87. regardless less mpg = more dollars on gas.
  17. N

2016 Sport or XLT , Lease advice .

white platinum is the color. this is XLT with tech package vs Sport with the tech package. the sport will cost you more gas, will potentially cost more in MX (tires specifically). So factor that in to your financing. since it seems finances is a large part of your decision. the sport will...

    2.3L EcoBoost or NA 3.5L?

if she drove more overall - or drove all city I'd have been on the 2.3 ecoboost like hair on a biscuit. good luck. PS I also did the math using 87 on one engine and 93 on the other - didn't make major difference. we run 89 mostly in the 3.5 right now anyway. summer I run 93 in all of my cars.

    2.3L EcoBoost or NA 3.5L?

I had a spreadsheet setup for it - I'm an engineer I do crap like that. with assumed average mpg's of our assumed weekly average run. (wifey's car so her work commute is 3 miles, day care another 2, daily + 200 for weekend) and with using costs for 89 octane and last years composite average...

    2.3L EcoBoost or NA 3.5L?

other than the desire for AWD I did a similar thought review when we bought ours in June. I actually liked the 2.3 ecoboost over the previous 2015 models 2.0. Driving the 2.3 and the 3.5 TiVCT back to back a few times - I was sort of leaning toward the 2.3 and it was the term of recovery for...

    30,000 Maintenance

I'm on the fence about how they thought they knew you needed to have your caliper pins regreased without taking the calipers off? which they shouldn't have done to check your pads nor for any reason other than you saying - hey the braking action isn't great or it pulls one side? Not saying...

Ford Explorer photos from SEMA 2015

Someone had a ceramic coated AL head, piston, and header engine. I forget who but the idea was to run lean and hot - ceramic coating let's the AL live - and because it's so hot you can reduce emissions overall - and boost the snot out of it. Think it was a based on a GM LS3 but would make some...

My 2016 vs 2013 Explorer review

tinting. there are a few people in my area that are covering the full windscreen - but they use the new 3M film that is clear but rejects 90% of IR and 100% of UV wavelength light. it's spendy but I think I'm going to try it soon.

My 2016 vs 2013 Explorer review

Indeed - take the few minutes to take some modicum of care of your ride. some people just can't I guess. yes you have to put a touch of treatment on leather if you want it to look good - but you know - you'd need to do the same for cloth - it just takes longer to notice. I will say as a...

My 2016 vs 2013 Explorer review

Leather wears much better over time. This alone is why I don't do cloth. also I've had lether seats in cars since I was 8 years old (IE maw and paw kettle only bought leather after then) so I might be somewhat biases. but living various places - I've never been burned by a leather seat -...

If you didn't buy the 11-16 explorer, then what?

honestly dollars vs space vs options. without same content level of stuffs - IE no motor lifegate, no nav, but leather the Durango would have been perhaps a better buy. but mpgs and the like it was last on my list. if space was key - and 3 row, but not expition, yukon. Durango is that nice...

If you didn't buy the 11-16 explorer, then what?

We have second row buckets - they were roomier and the move easier IMO. I also have no second row console - so that in theory kiddo at age 3-say 10 can get back into the rear seat without moving the second row seats. but if we do like we do today - and always cart the stroller (stupid thing is...

If you didn't buy the 11-16 explorer, then what?

I already know the explorer will be too small for us when kiddo 2 comes along. (kid crap takes up too much room, strollers and the like) and my wifey can't not keep other crap in her car for no good reason. but that aside - especially if kiddo 3 were to be a reality. So I'm curious what the...

If you didn't buy the 11-16 explorer, then what?

I'd mostly agree but the thing I keep trying to impress upon people is the current crop of SUV's are really fake attempts at minivans. The main thing body on frame allows with 4x4 is the ability to vary height and fix clearance issues easily in manufacturing. IE body stays mostly the same -...

If you didn't buy the 11-16 explorer, then what?

mine's a touch complicated so I'll try to keep it short. so for us it's a new kid hauler - and wifey primary car - and we hardly agree on squat. So typical under 30 female of OMG I need a new car because _____________....._______. we had a 12 focus - it was a great car and I sort of wanted to...

Are all ecoboosts strong as 448AA test engine?

While I agree in premise - I would extend those times a bit mostly because of the newer oil formulations. Only reason I say that is the throttle body spray can be a bit dangerous and doing it right means you need to take the intake off - get PAST the MAF (mass airflow sensor) and then...

Are all ecoboosts strong as 448AA test engine?

with the DI and turbos I recommend you run it out in a gear occasionally. for no other reason that to make the injectors run max pressure for a moment and keep them clean. While there might be some out there that have some premature failures of parts - I'd say at stock levels you'll be fine...

Does dealer use a head light aiming tool?

It's actually illegal here in the states too, with limited exceptions. car's that happen to come with a version of HID, and using factory equipment or modified and adjust to factory alignment. it's just almost never enforced - how many cops have the time to write out tickets for it let alone...

My 2016 vs 2013 Explorer review

Your start issue was probably an EPAS fault due to out of limit. if I had to guess. glad it started up though. sort of an oddity. chalk it up to rental car. I agree about climate in the RH screen but I can see why they'd remove it. could be way too distracting. I however do love the...
