Cabin Air Filter Replacement
I searched but wasn't 100% sure if the thread I was reading was going to be accurate on my 2016 model. So Question - where is the cabin air filter on the 2016 model explorer and is it easy to get to? My car is not one year old and 25K miles (yes, sadly really it is). And wifey is going to...- Napalm

Looking at the 2016 Explorer Sport...questions...
The ground clearance is your major issue - the sand settings will work amazingly well even on the dry sand. But if you really are going to get out deep enough to say bog in 5+ inches in - then you'll most likely be stuck in the explorer. either the front body aero dam or the fender well or...- Napalm

Free valves/ Camless engine by Koenigsegg
No worries but in engineering we always seem to come up with re-inventing something or borrowing a piece. Auto History is sort of my other thing. One of the "valveless" designs I used to like involved a rotating cartridge where the poppet valve would be - the cartridge would then spin in place...- Napalm

Free valves/ Camless engine by Koenigsegg
love the lack of mention of the first system or it's founder. Preston Tucker - back in the 30's he proposed an all hydraulic valve system after working on the idea of a dual overhead cam engine earlier in his career. (and yes your beloved over head cam, and even better the dual over head cam...- Napalm

How much gas left after the gauge says 0 miles??
So it's a bit easier to cypher if nobody's has mentioned it before. Capacity listed for the 2016 explorer is 18.6 gallons - notice your gage is marked with what would be even increments for 4- leading to 16 sub steps to empty. Therefore the gage marks off the first 16 gallons of use - the...- Napalm

LED headlight out / failure

Disabling traction control permanently on a 2016?
HUH. I'd be curious as to see what's in the programing - I found all the devices I test drove were way more responsive and shifted quicker and higher up the RPM band in sport mode. I suspect it has some affect on the stability system.- Napalm

Disabling traction control permanently on a 2016?
curious do you drive your explorer sport in sport mode. I got to thinking about that the other day. as in shifter lever all the way to the S at the bottom, or just in D. Using the "sport' mode in the transmission also changes other programed aspects of the car's reactions. throttle ramp is...- Napalm

so my liftgate when in motion - beeps in the car. the entire travel. and the beeps appear to come from the car speakers. so I wonder if 1 it didn't latch all the way and 2 a bump jarred it open such that the air strut opened the door. IE it wasn't on power drive mode and it wasn't an...- Napalm

2.3L Ecoboost Question
That's why I say you might not need it. Despite conventional wisdom not all engines have a build up issue on the intake valves. Some do a better job that others - so if people without catch cans are having issues on their focus, focus ST's mustangs and etc then it might be an issue for Ford...- Napalm

2.3L Ecoboost Question
I believe the 2.3 ecoboost in the new explorer is the same basic engine as the 2.3L ecoboost in the mustang. Squealing Noise When Wet, Belt?
6 years or thereabouts is a pretty good run for a belt - let alone however many miles over 80K you might have gotten. to that end- today's pulleys are actually sealed ball bearings and meant to be lubed for life - they are often plastic but even the metal ones aren't meant to be serviced these...- Napalm

I think I read someone else complain about that on an explorer recently but I don't know if it was moving at the time. so I would say if the powertrain warranty is 5 years or 60K - at either mark I'd be changing the PTU fluid. change oil or wait
the dealer you used, and/or it's service writer should be shot for incompetence. Even the Japanese companies have premature failure issues on their products - their dealers though often do more to help the owners when they bring them in. To that end - our 2016 has 21K on the clock (and yes it's not even a full year old) and it's been flawless.- Napalm

16-17 Explorer questions
Leather requires care on pretty much any car. your luxo brands when they are taken in for MX are often treated by the dealer before haning back to the owner - it's part of that up charge. If I could help it on a Daily driver I would never have cloth seats again. The Ecoboost 2.3 4 mill -...- Napalm

Rear brakes
for having the job done for you - the price isn't unreasonable. Suspension disconnect, a little surprising

Suspension disconnect, a little surprising
some are. the 4 wire and the 7 wire are all one way systems. there are a few multiwire setups that do feedback to a controller setup for electric brake force and wheel speed. but those are more complicated - and for a real tow rig. Sway control is one of the settings you can de-select in...- Napalm

AC not blowing cold
under a car cover in that ammount of hot and direct sun light you will have heat soaked the car. Irony this is a tested condition during development - but the limits aren't probably what you would expect. So not only is the air in the cab hot, so is the air in the dash, all the vents etc...- Napalm

2016 LED headlights in a 2015?
From what I've seen - regardless of your model moving to the 2016 is a new headlamp assembly. from there you'll notice that the 2016 LED setup for low beams has the emitter panel off to the side - it's not a bulb but a panel with a heat sink. and it's made to reflect out of a curved mirror...- Napalm
