If it's 2 WD or 4 WD, jack it up and check manually. You can't do that if it's AWD. MT- MAS Tequila

Why would CEL go out by itself?
Mine will do that occasionally if I run the tank extremely low or get a tank of bad gas. I'll fill up with the non-ethanol and 20 miles later it goes out. MT- MAS Tequila

1997 Ford Explorer Eclipse Sport Truck Outlander Edition XLT
They were/are a conversion company, sort of like the century conversion trucks. special paint jobs, decked out interiors, etc. These kind of things were big in the 90's. There were all kinds of companies doing up trucks and SUV's after the conversion van market went belly up. Sorry...- MAS Tequila

shock bolts
Do you have an impact wrench? Use some extensions and adapters to get the impact on the bottom of the bolt with a wrench on top. It will either come loose or break. Either way you win. Or cut the head with a Dremel. My truck has been a Florida truck it's whole life, so there's...- MAS Tequila

What brand shocks?
I have the same set up and am extremely satisfied with it. You didn't mention how you use yours. Do you carry a load in the back or pull a trailer occasionally? It matters. If your shocks have been on there for a while, it's likely that they're either shot or close to it. Mine...- MAS Tequila

Windshield Washers
I'm down to replacing one piece of leather on the passenger seat and finding some OEM or better replacement floor mats. The front suspension work was the worst. It's been hot down here and working under the truck was not fun. But I'm at 72216 miles, and will have a like new 14 year old...- MAS Tequila

Cool, now it works. I replaced the map light bulbs in my 00 yesterday, and what a pain in the ASS! It took about an hour to get the copper foil to stay in place while twisting the bulbs. MT- MAS Tequila

Disabling/repairing the front differential
You're missing my point. On the 3rd gen the 2wd looks like my AWD but there is no spindle or CV or anything with a nut in the center. Only the three bolts holding the hub to the knuckle. MT- MAS Tequila

Left rear turn singanl intermittent blinking
If the bulbs are good and the contacts are good, check the MFS. I chased the same issue on an F150, spent hundreds at shops trying to get it fixed, and it was the MFS. MT- MAS Tequila

Disabling/repairing the front differential
I know we're talking about 2nd Gen, but, the 3rd Gen front end looks almost identical to my '00 AWD. My dad's '04 front end is almost identical, and it uses the same hubs and set up whether it's 2 wheel or 4 wheel. The 3rd Gen hubs have the splines but no cv's or nuts torqued to 188ftlbs...- MAS Tequila

96 xlt 4x4 shudder or misfire??????
Upper, the O-rings dried out and didn't seal the runners any more. If it stutters @ idle you can check by spraying some silicone on the places where the seals may be bad. If it smooths out temporarily you know that it's sucking outside air. MT- MAS Tequila

I had the same problem finding a coolant leak on my 00 5.0 Mounty. It turned out to be the goose neck. It would only leak when the engine was hot. The metal would expand and you could see the crack. But it looked fine when cool. MT- MAS Tequila

Broken front wheel bearings
Had it happen 30 years ago on a 73 Chevy pick up. While pulling a 30' camper down the freeway, the bear went out and welded itself to the spindle causing the spindle to break. The only thing holding the wheel in place was the brakes. MT- MAS Tequila
