Everything shifts fine cold. About a mile down the road, I develop a bad flare on the 2-3 shift and then reverse will quit working. Let it cool down an hour or two and reverse is back. Anyone have any ideas?

I've noticed the lights in the overhead console and the power window switches pulsate on cold mornings. Ater 10 minutes or so, the pulsating stops, the overhead lights are bright, and the window switches are no longer lit up. Anyone know where these items would have a common connection?

I have a 1999 4x4 Explorer, 4.0L sohc. The engine is out and on a stand. Plastic guides are in pieces (big surprise). I pulled the engine when it got very loud, deciding I'd do both chains rather than wait to be stranded after doing just one. Timing tools and parts are in hand. Looking at...
