Have to replace master cylinder and parts store is asking if it has a proportioning valve or not. No Idea how to identify this feature....anybody know what I should be looking for?

In casual conversation, I've talked with a bunch of people who, as their explorers age, the ride tends to become much harsher. The problem I suspect, is also confined to the V8 models. Has anyone else seen this problem? I replaced all 4 shocks @ 2 yrs ago. There was perhaps a 10% improvement...
